How exciting...a new series of off-Broadway musicals coming to the mainstage this summer
Cradle wil Rock -July 10-13
Violet - One night 0nly starring Sutton Foster July 17
I'm Getting My Act Together and Putting it on the Road. July
24-27
Tickets will be mostly $25
I think I'm getting a subscription
I didn't know anything about I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking It On the Road, but after a quick glance at the wiki, I'm pretty excited about that. Honestly the only thing I don't care much about is Sutton Foster doing Violet.
I'm excited about what this series could potentially do, and hope it doesn't go the way of Summer Stars.
There are plenty of possibilities for this program. How about GOD BLESS YOU, MR. ROSEWATER one season?

I'm Getting My Act Together & Taking it on the Road was part of The York Theatre Musicals in Mufti in 2011, with 3 of the original cast members. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to seeing it again, on a bigger scale. Both shows were 90 minutes so it will be interesting to see what Encores does with it.
I grabbed a ticket for all three shows, the $25 seats are going quick for Violet since it is only one night.
I am not sure how I managed to to put Putting in that title. Thanks for the heads up newintown, I corrected it

Wish I could see Violet. Beautiful show and beautiful score.
A: the title is I'm Getting My Act Together and Taking It on the Road. And If I hear that "Old Friend" song one more time, I'll vomit patchouli and batik prints. Even when it was new, this show struck me as seriously over-the-top 70's excess.
I'd like to see a good production of The Cradle Will Rock; I just wonder how many people really understand the meaning of it today.
I'm with gives me voice on Violet - I was writhing with boredom at the original production. Does nobody feel that it's rather inappropriately self-serving for the artistic director of this series to program her own show in the premier season?

I live in Chicago. I'm used to it.
This is for newintown:
Michael Feinstein: 'Old Friend'
I enjoy the music to "I'm Getting My Act.....", but I agree with newintown that it has not aged well (except Old Friend which I still think is a great song). I came to it the 90s and it sounded dated then.
I have never seen Violet, but I love Tesori's score.

I'm honestly betting not many.
I'm afraid this whole series is a bad idea. Three shows that most people don't care about in a 2,700-seat theater. I'm only semi-curious about The Cradle Will Rock and have no desire to see the other two.
I wonder why they didn't start with something that has a bit more popular appeal...the 1950s Threepenny Opera, for example.
Joey, who is going to clean up this patchouli and batik all over the floor?
I dunno about "origional meaning" but I think the Cradle will Rock is hugely relevant today. Remember the Wisconsin protests when they cut the teacher's union two years ago? Unionization, pro and con, is still very much something to be talked about. What's not to understand?
