Engelbert

Suggestion: before you review a singer or entertainer -go see the show! Now about the age group that goes to his, in Vegas I met a young man, 30. He had gone to the show because his girl friend wanted to go. His comments: Engelbert is terrific! and I can't even move like he did on stage. Typically, which you would know if went before reviewing the crowd ranges from the teens and up, so do his fans! My 7 year old grand child adores Engelbert and draws pictures of him. Engelbert not only still has a voice beyond compare but gets more handsome all the time.
Without the help of any cosmetic assistance. Up close and personal you see the laugh crinkles at his eyes and the goodness of his soul in his eyes. His fans know and love him not only for the wonderful voice and the great shows he does but for his impact on their lives. So many of his fans have wonderful stories to tell of times in their lives that were tough or painful when Engelbert the man was their for them. When I had cancer and recently completed 6 months of chemotherapy I received a gift from Engelbert and when he would see me he would always ask how I was doing. He is a kind man with a caring heart who connects with people. He is very appreciative of his fans and never forgets to mention that he would not have had the life and career he has had without them. In fact, he always has a song in his show dedicated to his fans. The latest has a line that says, "I looked into the wings and you were there". As to Elvis, they were close fans and his does the bit in his show in rememberance of Elvis. To those of us who know.....it is his way of reminding us of the great talent we all lost when Elvis left us too soon. It is so sad that you write about someone without even knowing any facts. However, the loss is yours. The privilege to know Engelbert in any way is to be treasured.....because sometimes in this life ordinary people get to know extra-ordinary people. Engelbert is one of those extra-ordinary people that few get to meet in a life time. When you do, the impact stays with you a life time. Why don't you make the effort to find out who Engelbert really is as a singer, entertainer, person...it would change you and your opinions. Bobbie Mayo

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Well said Bobbie. Check the Engelbert Humperdinck heading for Enge4024's and my remarks. We are asking that Ms. Sterling apologize for disrespecting Engelbert. BTW, I'm Linda F.

Ms. Sterling: Trust me when I tell you that you would rather tease a pack of rabid werewolves than risk offending Engelbert's most loyal fans. I imagine you'll be hearing from most of them in very short order.

I believe your review was unncessarily barbed, considering the fact you knew he was performing under duress when you took pen in hand. Any other performer would have cancelled the entire engagement and not give a damn whether the audience was disappointed or not. Engelbert doesn't roll like that, dear. He is a consummate professional who would rather crawl on a mile of broken glass rather than disappoin his fans.

Over the years, Engelbert has re-invented himself in keeping with the times, but the music has always remained the same. That's what makes him a legend, not a caricature of himself as your article suggests. He is not a crooner in the style of Sinatra or Martin, but rather, a contemporary balladeer who, regardless of his hair dresser, can take that 3 1/2 octave voice and touch your soul. He is the epitome of style and class, and there isn't one entertainer on the strip today who could shine his shoes.

Next time you feel like ripping an entertainer a new one, why not try Snoop Dogg or Fitty-Cent. Now there's a couple of fine upstanding citizens.

Right on BillyMac.

Apparently lakezurich is getting his/her chain yanked pretty thoroughly and is getting very upset. I find the juvenile comments funny, and, remember...lakezurich....no one is forcing you to read our posts. I rarely see someone get so worked up about a subject of which I seriously doubt they have any knowledge. Rant on lakezurich, you only demean yourself.

I imagine you're right about Ms. Sterling hearing from most of us, and rest assured there are many, and loyal doesn't begin to describe the feelings we have for him. Linda F.

Does anyone remember what happened to Senor Sock on Talk Soup? John Henson shot him because he had rabies.

Aw-w-w-w-w Poor Senor Sock. Never paid much attention to Talk Soup...don't enter the vast wasteland of TV often. I'm sure he's in a better place, now. Linda F.

re: Engelbert

Another legacy that Engelbert will leave to his fans is our friendship for one another. I have made so many wonderful friends because of him. We all love him, stick up for him, promote him, and encourage him. How many "stars" of today will still be around in 10 years? Engelbert has lasted all these years because he is GOOD!! His shows are fun and he really interacts with his audiences. He is a clean, decent, hard working, and elegant man.

He is probably appreciated more in other countries than in the US. We have "dumbed down" our music to the point where it consists of hip wiggling weirdoes, screaming raucous, unintelligible, nasty lyrics and we call that talent! Engelbert is a breath of fresh air in comparison.

As far as that man sitting behind Ms. Sterling singing every song with Enge, isn't it wonderful that his audiences know and love his music and can understand every word he sings? C'mon Ms. Sterling someday you will be old and who do you suppose will be singing for you? What songs will you remember from the present generation of "singers"? Thank God for Engelbert, "The Last Man Standing"!!

Why don't you and your little friends go put your tu-tu's on and sit in a corner and play with your toys.

This discussion is for mature audiences only and it's obvious you and your playmates don't fit into this category.

Sock puppets, how childish is that?

Whatever it is that's wrong with you is no small thing. How bout taking a flying leap in the middle of Lake Zurich? You disingenuous half-a-sissy.

So now there are FIVE brand new members obsessed with Engelbert?
and he's arguing and agreeing with himself?

And it's NOT even a b'way show....or did I miss something?

And...oh...nevermind.

WBAF --- Its only ONE person referring to a week old 'review' to an Englebert Humperdinck 4 day gig in vegas. He just has multiple personalities.

I simply adore Engelbert Humberdink's music. His score for HANSEL AND GRETEL is about as charming as they come.

Too bad he died.

re: Engelbert

Yes, dollypop, but that Engelbert died in 1921. You need to come into the 21st century, my dear, and learn about the Engelbert we're talking about. A wonderful singer, showman and PERSON. If you've never seen him, you're missing the boat.

If you meant your comment for the snide remark of the day, and an insult, you missed the mark.

Many have tried, but none have succeeded, they only end up looking dumb, and it's hard to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. Linda F.

DollyPop, join the 21st century? Good luck. We've been trying to lure him into the 19th century for years but he's happy in 1786.

I simply adore 1786. The cost of living was much more reasonable then!

Well, ladies and wannabes, it's been fun, but I see I'm casting my pearls before swine. Therefore, you can wallow in your inane comments and ignorance, and take your sock puppets and wear them where they'll fit the best. The lights of BROADway are just too dim for me. So, yet again, happiness is my birthplace, New York, in my rearview mirror.
