Posted: 9/17/06 at 1:59pmI am on a bit of an Elizabeth I kick. I have watched the movie with Cate Blanchett, and am immersed in the Helen Mirren miniseries. I was wondering if there have been any plays based on her, or any member of the Tudor Family. Thanks in advance.

Posted: 9/17/06 at 2:19pmShakespeare has a whole group of plays about English history, ending with Richard III which concludes with the triumph of Elizabeth's grandfather, Henry VII. He is also attributed as the author of a very bland play called Henry VIII Check those out.

Posted: 9/17/06 at 6:56pmThe Beard of Avon by Amy Freed is an interesting comedy that speculates on which of several prominent historical figures actually wrote Shakespeare's plays, including Elizabeth I.

Posted: 9/18/06 at 11:28amThere is also a German play called "the Royal Gambit", about Henry VIII and his six wives (written around 1960) and more recently a play that played at the Public called Marlowe, a rather flamboyant, but interesting account of the playwright's life. (can't remember the author's name)
