"Why does the acting in Magic Mike matter, since the musical would use different actors?" It doesn't. Just had to vent.

So I saw both TED and MAGIC MIKE this weekend, and I have to say a MAGIC MIKE musical, which is already in the works, would be a complete snoozefest. The movie was troubled by bad acting, unlikable characters, and a non-existent plot. TED on the other hand featured some hysterical moments and an over-the-top premise that often works on the stage. I disagree. I think it could work. Nellie truly doesn't believe she's racist at all. It's not until the end of the 1st act when she meets Emile's half-Polynesian children that she starts to realize that she's prejudiced. I personally don't think Nellie's the kind of character who has a problem with anyone who's not her color. I think she just has a problem with people of THAT color, probably because of the war. Just wondering if anyone knows of a good place to go to find good audio recordings of songs cut from out-of-town tryouts or previews. "Fresh and current" doesn't mean that it will be updated to take place in 2010. The movie version of CHICAGO was very fresh, current, and relevant, and yet the setting was exactly the same as the show.

Here's one change ALW needs to make: Cut the character of Meg altogether. Meg as the villain just doesn't work. So cut her and add Carlotta. That diva has a bone to pick with both the Phantom and Christine (one killed her husband, the other stole her job), and I'm sure she'd travel to New York to get her revenge.
