Does anybody else think that "Enternal Sunshine of the spotless mind" might work as a play?
It would be complicated, but I think that it might have possibilities to be really amazing.
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu

I'm not a huge fan of these kinds of makeovers, but when I first saw ES, I immediatly thought, "Wow, this would be such a cool play," especially in the scenes where he's trying to protect her memory while everything else is being stripped away.
Now, having said that, I'll ask, why do it? Is there something more that the play could say that the film didnt? I mean, if you're going to do this, let it be for a reason, not because it's a cool thing to do (HELLO DISNEY PEOPLE! ARE YOU LISTENING HERE?). A stage play is such a *different* medium that in order for this to be a successful project, it would have to make use of those things unique to the stage -- the immediacy of the experience, for example.
So, let's throw the question around a bit. What could the stage play do that the film couldnt? What would you add? What would have to go because of technical limitations? And most importantly, what would such a transition bring to the experience that the original film couldnt match?

It COULD work. But there would be more of a chance that it wouldn't.
Why mess with something so perfect?
