Saw his shows What Makes Sammy Run & Her First Roman.

Erwin Drake gave Sinatra the song When I Was 17 It was A Very Good Year and to this day it remains a favorite of mine. Met Erwin years ago and over the years we were in contact every so often, the last time was a birthday party at his home.

WHAT MAKES SAMMY run is one of my favorite cast albums to listen to over and over. I'm also very fond of HER FIRST ROMAN.

Sad to hear he's gone now.

Classic overture and really underappreciated score

First Roman has a number of good songs in it. Looked like a winner with a cast of Richard Kiley & Leslie Uggams. Did not work out that way.

I believe there was an Equity showcase of a revised version of WHAT MAKES SAMMY RUN? that played the West End Theater in 2005.

It was revised I believe to reflect the darker and grittier tone of Budd Schulberg's original novel.
