She's not...she was Miss Alaska 2001.
Wicked in Japan has already started. It's a condensed 30-minute version of the Broadway musical inside the Universal Studios featuring more familiar songs from the play and with full sets and costumes.

30 MINUTES!!?!?!?
That's more than Vegas scales down shows.
what do they do? Just sing the opening number, defying gravity and than have someone give a quick synopsis between the two?

Wait--
The production of Wicked currently being mounted in Japan isn't in Japanese?
I was under the impression that they were doing thirty minutes of the show in Japanese as a preview for the full show coming next year.
I'm currently living in Japan for a year and I wanted to see the show when I go to Osaka next month, but I'm not going to pay to go to USJ if it's in English since I already show the show in the States. I was ONLY going because it was going to be in Japanese and I wanted to hear it.
Does anybody know anything else about this?
Oh, and Caroline-Q-or-TBoo? You have to go a bit further south than Japan in order to see toilets that spin in the opposite direction. You're thinking of Australia, etc. Japan is actually on parallel with the United States. The Tokyo region is about where the Tri-State area is and my island, Kyushu, is further south near the Carolinas, etc. Japan's weather parallels much of the weather of the U.S. due to its line-up. Japan isn't quite as different as you might think!

I know her! I worked with her at Jenny Wiley Theatre in KY in Beauty and the Beast in '05...she was a Napkin.
She's pretty good, y'all. And I'm proud to know her. I just sent her like the LONGEST MySpace comment cause I miss her so much.

Baine: I think it's only a 30 minute theme park attraction show with full sets/costumes similar to the show. I didn't hear anything about a complete production coming to Japan.
Another thing, I remember seeing a clip somewhere. If I'm not mistaken, I think they sing and speak in Japanese, but I vaguely remember some English too. Does anyone know if Eugenia is going to be speaking or singing in Japanese?

Posted: 10/22/06 at 3:47pmFrom what I watched, it looked like Elaphaba spoke English and Glinda spoke Japanese.
#13re: Eugenia Primis as Elphaba
Posted: 10/22/06 at 3:48pmIt varied from scene to scene, song to song. At least, from what I *saw*, it did. But the Elphaba I *saw* mostly spoke/sang in English.

I guess MAC couldn't ship the correct green to Japan...
And the wigs are HORRENDOUS!
From the clips I "saw" as well, they speak a combination of Japanese and English. Japanglish if you will. I think that if someone who spoke each language saw it, they'd get the gist.
Yup.
Japanglish.

So it's a hybrid mix. Interesting. I wonder if they'll keep the show running at USJ after a full production is mounted?
It would give good publicity to go see the show wherever they actually have it, plus gaijin would be able to understand it as well. And the Japanese do like to sprinkle English into their music..
Hmm, interesting. Thanks for the info!

I saw the whole thing (not with the new elphaba, with the old one) on the "site-that-shall-not-be-named"...and let me tell you- it was funny! They kept switching languages, sometimes from sentence to sentence, other times from song to song... And well, maybe because I don't speak Japanese, but to me the order of the songs they had didn't make any sense. But, it was very amusing! :)

I saw a bootleg of it. They do switch around from english to japinese sp? In the end part of on short day during the harmony, they had one part of it in english and the other part in japanese.
a summary of the theme park version. Keep in mind, That this was based on what i was able to gather from seeing the broadway show and knowing some of the story line.
It starts out with one short day, as the two girls go to the wizard. The wizard asks them where they met and they tell them at school. That partof the show is where they have the wizard and I, what is this feeling and dancing through life. At the end, the flashback is over, and it ends the same way act one ends. they end with Defying Gravity. Keep in mind, a lot of the songs were alterd to fit have the show fit within the thirty min.

my favorite part is that for good is put smack dab in the middle of defying gravity
well that and elphie's shiz uniform is the jacket and a sh*tty version of the beanie put over the defing gravity dress
also the wizard comes out on the balcony and does the "wiiiiiiiiicked witch speech"

Part of this new shorter shows fad...
