Just got home from seeing the first performance of this show and I have to say it's been quite a while since two actors have so completely wowed me. Daphne Rubin-Vega & Malik Yoba gave two of the most raw and honest performances I can remember seeing in the theatre, maybe ever.
I am unfamiliar with Yoba's work but after tonight he made a fan out of me for life. He's so completely natural on stage (as is Rubin-Vega) that seeing this show is like you're eavesdropping on a private conversation and at times you really feel as if you shouldn't be there it's just that private. (Each actor had real tears streaming down their faces tonight and Vega even had trouble breathing at one point she was sobbing so hard).
This is only playing for a month or so I believe, so if you have a chance to see it, GO!!! I doubt you'll be dissapointed.
wow...I really wish I could see this. I love Daphne and am glad to hear that both her and Yoba are in fine form (I also am unfamiliar with him but glad to hear he's great) I hope more people go see it and it extends.
Seeing it tomorrow night and now even more excited!!
Thx.
Thanks for the review . . . gotta go buy tickets now!
Gustof777, I don't think they'll extend since Vega has to start rehearsals for LES MIS.
dammit...I was hoping I'd get a chance to see it. I guess I'll have to wait till her play in January or Feb. w/ Phil Hoffman
anyone have any word about whether they come after to sign autographs?
man i wish I could see this. I know Daphne puts 100% into everything she does so it's no surprise that she's amazing in this, I wish there was a chance for at least an album of the music.
We just bought our tickets. :) Going next Saturday. Any new reviews on it? Anyone know if they do the "stage door thing"? We missed Daphne at Rent 10 by a minute or two and would love to meet her.
