Just curious

I saw the Evita Tour in May and I was wondering what production that was. Was it the same sets/design/direction of the Broadway production [or london??].
I really liked it and was curious

I could be wrong but I think it was the same as the Broadway one. I saw the touring cast in March and absolutely adored it!

Awwh, yay!
My good friend and (former) colleague is an u/s for 'Che'.
I'll be super-happy to report the positive feedback!

This production had the video projection screen that was flown down from the fly space to make up for sets - sometimes

I'm almost positive it's the same exact sets from the 20th Anniversary (which was at one point Broadway-bound) tour featuring Natalie Toro and Raul Esperza.

Then the 2005/6 Kathy Voytko tour (all the merchandise from that that was left over is now being sold for this tour) used the majority of those sets and added the video projection thing, and of course the tour turned Non-Equity about a year ago.

If it looks like that picture, its based on the original Hal Prince staging.

"...and added the video projection thing..."

Was that not a part of the original staging? I thought it was.

The tour was a reproduction of the original London and Broadway productions. (The only exception was that of the shape of the Casa Rosada, because of limitations of the number of trucks used to move the set from venue to venue.)

The projection screen was a part of Hal Prince's original concept, and you will see this in the staging, which includes freezes of the entire company and white-out "camera flashes" to compliment the documentary style (the first of it's kind to my knowledge). The entire show is constructed as snapshots of a woman's life.

Im actually not sure about the video projections being in the original Broadway one. I don't recall them being that big of a deal in the Natalie Toro version...I know they used it during Don't Cry For Me Argentina, but I don't fully remember but this one has random pictures of Argentine horses (polo grounds)/other random Argentine spots. I found some of it a little distracting, only because it seemed like "rare" footage or stuff you wouldn't normally see about her, but you wanted to focus on what was on stage at the time. It worked perfectly with the Rainbow Tour scene though.

all the projections, including the sequence for rainbow tour, are from the original broadway production.

This show could use a revival.

So many people want one (including me badly!), but it doesn't appear to happen.

The 20th Anniversary Tour was a hope for a revival, which never happened. Actually I don't really know the story for why they didn't go to Broadway, especially considering it was originally announced so, all I know is that they purposely picked a "latino-influenced" cast to promote it. And everyone was really good especially Natalie Toro & Raul Esparza (obviously)!

Then the 2004-2005 Kathy Voytko tour was more like a propaganda type thing to promote the London Revival that was supposed to transfer. In early 2004, Andrew Lloyd Webber was obviously working on Woman in White and clearly EVITA was close to being revived once before. So apparently him and CAMERON MACKINTOSH wanted to get into this production (which I don't actually recall if he produced), and after WiW had it's debut in 2005 they really worked on re-arranging the orchestrations and new direction, etc. The London show opened in June 2006 and played until the end of May 2007, and was supposed to debut on Broadway fall/ish 2007, with Elena Roger in the title role for sure, and I wouldn't have been suprised if they allowed Philip Quast to come over. But the London revival's ticket sales were apparently garbage in Spring '07 and they canceled it.

We could really use a revival over here. It might actually get a better public reception than London! Atleast I hope so.

Out of curiosity (and sorry for straying off-topic) but does anyone know what Elena Roger has been up to since the London revival closed? Did she have to go back to Argentina?

She joined the London revival of Boeing Boeing for a while...literally like days after EVITA closed. But she left a while ago...in a very short run for her, and I have no idea where she is now. From the looks of her website (which isn't official I don't think), she is back in Argentina or Spain, in plays or musicals with Spanish titles (well, and Piaf!).
