You know Kelli o Hara is a wonderful actress and a wonderful singer . Who has never given up being on the stage, I saw her in South Pacific on Broadway and she was so good and the stage craft was amazing. Is the director the director of rent he is a wonderful director and has two Pulitzer shows under his belt. He has amazing direction. Far From Heaven might not be a fully designed show it might just be a workshop for a new book. I do hope this is good Grey Gardens is one of my favourites.

Golden boy, you may not like the score but it is hardly atonal. I thought it was beautiful.

As I was leaving the theater, I heard two women complaining."There were no good songs." They were right.
This did not need to be musicalized. It is not the fault of any of the actors. Kelli O Hara is quite good; Not sure if Steven Pasquale was directed to be quite unlikeable or that was his choice. It's the material. Nothing but polite applause at the end with lots of disgruntled patrons at Playwrights. Without the modern satire and look at the fifties soap opera... it is nothing but soap opera with really bad music.

Now if they paid attention to the original concept...... conceptualized it as...look we have the perfect modern fifties family. And a musical number openned the show that was called "the perfect family" and then we saw it disintegrate slowly before our very eyes over the course of the evening... this could have worked. Steven Pasquale was so unlikable in the role that it was never the perfect family in this version. In the film...the father was likeable at first and it did seem like the perfect family.

Sorry. Totally missed opportunity and I hated the score. As did a lot of disgruntled patrons around me.

Well, just from reading this thread you can see many people loved the score too. I guess we hear what we want to hear . I saw it twice and both times heard people express the hope that the show was recorded. I daresay there were disgruntled people at my performance and people who wanted the cd at yours. I won't be surprised if the reviews reflect that too. I can't see the reviews being unanimous.

For those looking for tickets... the box office seems to play games with their inventory. One 2 pm on Friday, all of the shows were sold out then a few hours later, 4 or 5 perforances suddenly had seats. I'm not sure if they are releasing more seats or just playing supply and demand games. If you want a seat just check back a few hours later.
