I'm doing a production of CHESS right now and I can see why it was a flop. The story is really not good but it will remain one of my favorite shows musically. I totally appreciate the music I've never heard on a recording. It's really great music.
Has no one yet mentioned Working? Love that one.
Chess and Bare.
LOVE the score to A Doll's Life! Didn't see it, but the story line seems strange.
Why hasnt Larry Grossman written more?

I also really, really, liked DANCE A LITTLE CLOSER, a first night flop from the early 80s. Thank God they made a cast recording of it.

Juno, hands down. I don't think anyone's mentioned it yet. It's outstanding.

Somebody brought up Lolita, My Love. Put that down as my favorite out-of-town closer.

i'm sad to see that only one other person mentioned "rags," which i think has one of the most beautiful scores written for any show, flop or not.
