FIASCO Theatre announces a full season

This is a surprising, but welcome announcement. I wonder if Fiasco has managed to expand their resources significantly, because normally they only do 1 production a year in NY, if even. And it's usually presented with the assistance of a larger company like Roundabout or CSC. I know they've been touring their ITW for a while - maybe they've been making good margins and saving up for an expansion of the company?

This is an impressive and exciting line-up on paper - particularly the Hamlet partnership with Deaf West.

So far, I have yet to see Fiasco repeat their success with Into the Woods. I saw their Twelfth Night and their Merrily, and I found both pretty disappointing. Having said that, I do appreciate their creative approach to theatre-making, and I very much look forward to seeing what their do with this wide variety of programming.

Trying to decipher the language of the website announcement, it is not clear to me which if any of these shows are full productions. Some are clearly readings and some seem to be what we used to call quick and dirties. I'm eager to see most if not all of them whatever they are.

My biggest problem with Fiasco's Merrily and Woods was the casting...I know some of those folks are company members, but the casts have not been anywhere near as good as the productions themselves, and the productions suffered as a result.

Yeah, initially I had assumed that the 2022 shows would pretty much all be full productions, but looking more carefully, that doesn't appear to be the case - nor would that be feasible for the time-frame they have listed.

Either way you slice it though, this seems to be a totally new model for them - unless they've been doing these development series all along and I just never knew about them?

My guess, and I don't know, is that they were doing much of this stuff informally, for invited guests or just themselves, and then realized they had a potential revenue stream. I do think this is at least partly a new model for them, similar in at least some ways to how Red Bull has been operating for quite a while.
