I think he was rumored but never formally announced.

^ This is the one that is premiering in Seattle. Right now it is only planned for regional productions.

SO SO SO excited!!!! Amazing news. I heard he was definitely in the show, but because he doesn't LOOK like Jafar, I assumed he would be the Sultan. I'm sure his performance will be amazing. And I love how he works for Disney. Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast, Grimsby in The Little Mermaid and now this. :) In the press release, it said he was in Mary Poppins on Broadway. I IBDBed it and I had no idea he was a replacement for Admiral Boom! When did that happen?
As said above, it's mainly just for licensing to regional - and in the long run - community theatres, but if the reaction is good enough, it wouldn't surprise me if Disney decided to take it to Broadway.

Except its not a holiday story at all. And we already know that Elf will be back.
Personally, I'm in no need to see more Disnney on stage, but my kids will likely be thrilled if it makes it.
