Posted: 9/20/04 at 11:59pmParker is about 15 years too old for the role (she's 39 -- Streisand was 22), not to mention that she couldn't begin to handle the role's vocal demands (she really a very limited singer -- the range of it alone is well beyond what her voice could handle).

You scared me there for a moment Margo!
My defense for Shoshana:
The right age (24)
Phenomenal range
Would finally vault her into the stardom she deserves
She's Jewish too

I'd like to see STEPHANIE J. BLOCK handle the role in any Broadway revival of FUNNY GIRL.
She has the talent and the stage presence for such a role. She has also handled the role of Fanny Brice in a regional theatre production in the past.

how about the girl who played the Streisand "mini me" in her last concert tour.........? Was her name Lauren Frost or something like that????
Remember, at the beginning of the concert they had the "young" Barbra with her mother and the piano player at the recording studio...........and later the young Barbara's voice morphed into the real current day BARBRA and the concert began????
She is probably age appropriate now, but certainly does not have any "box office draw" power. Not yet.
But Redhotinnyc2 is likely right. I don't think we will be seeing a Broadway revival of FUNNY GIRL for at least another decade or two.
More likely would be a national tour. Especially if Omar Sharif
would put away his bridge playing for a while and bring his Nick Arnstein live to the stage.

Ummm....Omar Sharif is in his 70's now. Him playing Nick would be ridiculous.
I saw Lauren Frost in "Timeless" and she was thrilling. What a voice on that girl!! But don't you think they would want someone NOT associated with Streisand?

Sometimes, does it really matter how old the person is? I mean, if they look young enough and are perfectly capable of playing the part, then why not?
