Does anyone else get chills and goosebumps each and every time they listen to this song?

I think it might be the only non-Sondheim song that can evoke that feeling in me everytime I hear it.

I also like Dividing Day.

But watching Victoria Clark sing Fable is amazing.

I get chills and goosebumps whenever I hear ANY Piazza song! Actually, except for The Joy You Feel. It's a pretty song, I just can't connect with it, I guess. The overture sends me into tears though hehe

My favorite part of Fable is when she sings:
"Not the eyes but the part you can't explain
For the arms you could fall into forever"

AND

"LOVE! LOVE!
Love if you can, oh my Clara
Love if you can, and be loved"

Sigh. LOVE IT

Fable absolutely gives me chills and goosebumps. I lose it when Victoria sings "LOVE! LOVE!", and in the theatre, fuggedabouddit! I've never become so emotional at a show to be moved to tears but Piazza gets me everytime.

Priest, I abso-friggin-lutely get chills from this song. It is so perfectly composed and sung, the emotion in Victoria's voice and--aaah! That's all I can say.

I think that Adam Guettel is the best composer to write for theatre since Sondheim.

I was floored when I saw the show on opening night. Then I was even more moved when I watched Vicki perform the song on the Drama Desk awards. So beautifully constructed and beautifully acted. "Love if you can" is just stunning. And the final coda "Clara! The Light in the Piazza..." Oh god. I live for moments like this.

Another standout moment that gives me real chills is the "Here. She fell." from "The Beauty Is" reprise - which I love almost just as much. The way Vicki Clark hesitantly moved her hands to the side of her neck during those lines haunts me.

Okay. It's about time for a return visit.

Hell, I'm more obsessed than I thought.

You know, I've been thinking about this - the idea of revisiting Piazza. On one hand, I would love to see it again and again - its a magnificent piece of theatre. But on the other, I think I'd like to preserve in my memory that one and only time I saw it live...because, as we all know, shows are never the same twice - something changes each and every performance..and though that is a purely organic and wonderful occurance, it might just detract from my memory of how perfect the show is. I'm not sure.

You've got some will, redhot! I couldn't only go once to a show that I've completely fallen for. That first time is so special but each time I return I see things that I didn't see before and it remains just as emotional. I also feel an urgency to see it as many times as possible because it's a limited run, I might not see it again until it's revived in 20 years and I'll be old and talking about how I saw the original production.

I know Betty - I may have to see it again also - but I wonder if it will hold the same magic as the first time...I doubt that I will be able to keep away from Lincoln Center for long!...but then again - finances may just keep me from going again soon. I love relishing the recording every day though - I find new things to love about it each time I hear it.

Well, I've seen the show three times, and it just gets better and better for me. I think actors are all finding deeper understandings of the lyrics/music/roles.

It is a very nice show, and imho, my favorite of this last season by a mile.

I suggest you and joey whip out the plastic again. Is there a better reason to get in debt than a trip to Piazza? I hope that you feel the same magic you felt at your first visit, I know I did!

I've only seen LITP once but it was really close to being a perfect experience. (Some kid behind me kept kicking the back of my seat).
I'm sure it would get better and better with each viewing though. I had that experience with the original production of Sweeney Todd. Saw it three times in the original run. It helps to know every single word of the score. :)

This is just slightly OT, but since this is the most recent Piazza thread...

The film version of Light in the Piazza is on Turner Classic Movies tomorrow, if anyone's interested!

MYB-Thanks for reminding me! It's from 6-8pm, I think. Seeing the movie is going to make me want to run straight to the Viv, I love Piazza so much and I love Adam Guettel for giving me this music.

"Dividing Day" is my favorite Victoria Clark "goosebump" song from "Light in the Piazza". "Fable" is a great song, too. Heck, all of Mr. Guettel's "Piazza" songs are pretty fantastic!

I think it's against some kind of copywrite law or something to post them in their entirety. But I may be wrong. I know you can quote parts of a song - but I don't think you can post the entire thing - those posts get deleted pretty darned quick around here.

while I appreciate your enthusiasm, I must say - let's not go overboard here. He's got talent, sure - but Sondheim level? That's gonna take some time.
