Can't forget CARMEN MIRANDA, whose appearances on Broadway in the Schubert revues STREETS OF PARIS and SONS O'FUN in 1939 and 1940 started a rage for the samba, fruit-topped hats, bulky bracelets and beads, bare midriffs and banana-boat platform shoes. Even for women!
