Fan Photos With Stars Doing Shows In Previous Decades?

Hello. I'm currently reading a book titled "Brass Diva: The Life and Legends of Ethel Merman" by Caryl Flinn. I got to thinking about something. Many BWW members have taken pics with our wonderful contemporary Broadway favorites. Would any of you share pics you might have with Broadway stars, who were doing shows in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's? It could be people such as Ethel Merman, Mary Martin, Helen Hayes, Gwen Verdon, Donna Mc Kechnie, Chita Rivera and others. How were they (and others) about taking pics with fans? Just wondering.... from Roman in Austin, Texas

Well, I got a picture with Chita Rivera, but it was about two years ago. I don't know if that's what you're looking for or not. Coincidentally, she was simply lovely at the stage door to all my friends and me.

Well, she does qualify as a Broadway legend. Please share, if you will. I wonder if anyone has a fan pic with someone like...let's say... the Merm. If not pictures, then maybe someone can share an anecdote of meeting a classic legend (like Merman, Martin, Verdon and others). It would be interesting to see a fan pic with a cast member of the original cast of "Chorus Line" or another show. from RC in Austin, Texas

Brody, those pics are fabulous.

I think I've posted my Chita story, so if you don't want to read my gushing, skip over it. I saw "The Dancer's Life" in its penultimate weekend. My school planned a trip, and we had the option of seeing a third show or going ice skating. I, naturally, jumped at the chance to see Chita and was in Row B for the show. Her performance was incredible. My eyes could not physically leave her for two hours. My friends came, but they all had to sit in Row P (HA!) because they weren't sure if Chita was worth it. One of them heard it was not that great, but she thought she'd see it anyway. She was outside crying with us at the end of it.

Chita came outside and signed all of our Playbills, gave us these great big hugs, and just talked with us very sweetly for a few minutes. Such a wonderful night.

Thanks for the photos. I recognized Donna McKechnie, Lucie Arnaz, Mr. Jeter and Cathy Rigby. Your first picture was with Betty Garrett. Just yesterday, I was watching "That's Entertainment III" and Betty Garrett was dancing a number from "Our Town" along with Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly. Goodness gracious, Miss Garrett could dance like no one's business!! from RC in Austin, Texas..

P.S. Since I'm reading that Ethel Merman bio, does anyone have a picture with the Merm herself? Just wondering....

I think folks know her more from TV, but I loved her as Mrs. Potts in BATB out here in LA.

Mary Jo Catlett was the original Ernestina Money in HELLO, DOLLY! both with the Carol Channing company and the Ginger Rogers company. She also did the original CANTERBURY TALES musical. She played the Prioress.
