Those guys around TKTS are not very pleasant at the best of times.

re: Fantastiks!!!

Well there are two groups of people. There are the people who are hired by TDF (the group that owns and runs TKTS) who just stand around the board asking if people need help in picking a show or need help with how to use tkts etc. And, the other group of people are those with flyers for a given show with discount codes on them that will allow people to cut the line and then take that flyer to the box office and get a ticket for that particualr show.

So Mamma, please point out which one your talking about.

re: Fantastiks!!!

I guess a lot of American musicals have failed to charm Londoners, but it is amazing that this classic has been so ignored.

But then, SALAD DAYS is not a NYC favorite, either.

re: Fantastiks!!!

Anymore info on this one Mama?

I might have a spare slot when I go to New York but don't want to see it there if it is definitely on in London in October.

re: Fantastiks!!!

The biggest problem with The Fantasticks is that it requires very specific staging and direction to work. A good production is great and a bad production is HORRIFYING. There's no real middle ground when it comes to this show. I saw it twice at Sullivan Street and once at Orbach. In between, I witnessed a nightmarish amateur production which made me a bit gun shy to see the recent Off-Broadway revival, but thankfully, it was as charming, fresh and funny as the original. And yes, Tom Jones was surprisingly hilarious as the Old Actor. I hope the new London production does the show proud.

re: Fantastiks!!!

I think it was in the West End in the past because they have a poster for an old London production in the large Fantasticks photo/poster collection at the Snapple Thtr in NY. When I read it, it seemed to be for a West End theater. Believe John Wood was in it and at least one other name I recognized.

btw I think both the NY thtrs that have housed it have around 200 seats, at least the Snapple does which is larger than, tho modelled on, the Sul. St. Plyhse. It is a famously tiny original production, faithfully kept to through all these years (apart from its hiatus).
