It is rumored to open next Fall, amidst the Presidential 2008 Election, with Jake starring and Nichols directing.

Tony Award winner Doug Hughes will direct Beau Willimon's politically themed, Broadway-bound play Farragut North, according to Variety.

Produced by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, Steve Traxler, Michael Filerman and Stuart Thompson, Farragut is aiming for a summer bow on Broadway at a theatre to be announced. No casting has been announced.

Both Mike Nichols (as director) and Jake Gyllenhaal (as star) had been previously attached to Farragut; neither Nichols nor Gyllenhaal is currently involved with the stage production. Variety had reported in October 2007 that Warner Bros. was developing a screen version of Farragut as a vehicle for actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

Doug Hughes won a Tony Award for his direction of Doubt and was also Tony-nominated for his work on Frozen. He was represented on Broadway earlier this season with Mauritius, and his other Broadway directing credits include A Naked Girl on the Appian Way, A Touch of the Poet and Inherit the Wind. Hughes is also resident director of the Roundabout Theatre Company.
