Fascinating play characters...

What would you say would be your favorite, or most fascinating, character in a play is?

Mine would have to be Ralph in Frozen, or Blanche in Streetcar...

Just thought it would be cool to see people’s input.

Blanche DuBois. I just see so much in her, so much untold or inferred, and just see so much of her traits in others everyday which scares me slightly. She wasn't that far off base from how many others behave, other than the incidents that occurred to her

I really like Maria in "Master Class", I even bought 2 copies of the script, One to read and one that sits on the shelf all lovely!
I also ADORE "Tru" by Jay Presson Allen as well. I also think that "Lucifer's Child" was excellent, As was Julie Harris in it - sad it had such a short run.
I LOVE the characters in "Lettice & Lovage" as well, very funny indeeed.
George & Martha are classic characters, As are Stanley and Blanch.
I'm glad you asked this question since I feel so many folks would prefer a musical to a play, But if the work is good it rises above the canvas and stands on it's own.

Hedda Gabler...not quite so much character development as the other characters mentioned, but come on. She's such a - excuse my language, bitch - for no reason at all. It makes you wonder what's going through this quasi-crazy woman's head.

First and foremost, George in Who's Afraid of Virginia WOolf followed closely by Martha, actually they're equally fasinating in so many ways. And, I know it blatently said play but whatever theres a play version of this anyways, the narrator in blood brothers. I still haven't decided who or what I think he is....quite fasinating. Oh, and Annie in Misery as well as all the characters in the mousetrap. Well....except maybe for Paravichini and Mrs. Boyle they're just sorta there, but the others: fasinating.

I actually did the same thing. Well...sort of. In one weekend trip, I saw Glengarry Glenn Ross, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and The Pillowman. One of the best trips I ever had.

Randle P. McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I saw it with Gary Sinise on Off Broadway and he was so good! the best character i have ever seen him do.

I really loved Ned in The Normal Heart, simply because his character is so complex. His struggle between allowing himself to be emotional, and trying to combine that with his stubborness and polical activism is really amazing. I love how you're mad at Ned the whole time for not cooperating, but you support him and feel bad for him as well, not to mention the fact that you know he's right the whole time. It's an amazing play...
I hold a degree in Musical Theatre from Montclair State University. It is useless. Now I'm funny for money. Oh, and I sing.

re: Fascinating play characters...

This might sound a little cliche but any character written by Edward Albee. For some reason, no matter how unrelatable these characters may seem to be (as in Seascape, the elderly couple compared to me a college student) you always find some aspect to relate to, that draws you in. Its fascinating to say the least. Who's Afriad of Virginia Woolf has, in my opinion, one of the greatest four characters of the modern play. George, Martha, Honey...wow. Again, little aspects of these characters just draw you in.Just brillant.

(talking about One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest)
it might have been the one I saw. I was never sure if it was on Broadway or not.
