PU**Y!!!
I might lean towards Loesser. But I adore Gershwin as well as Rodgers. Oh...and Sondheim.
I'm just an indecisive kind of girl.

way too many after that
Since they haven't been mentioned, I will add the great Irving Berlin (Annie Get Your Gun) and Cole Porter (Anything Goes, Can-Can).
Porter has been mentioned by Yours Truly along with one or two others. How could I forget the Gershwins? Porgy and Bess is a masterpiece.

Stephen Sondheim and Harold Arlen
over the past few years my #1 favorite has become William Finn, with Lippa quickly replacing JRB in the 2nd spot. however...
it's possible these will change at some point. the composer who I'll always consider to have written the most perfect all-around contemporary musical score is a guy no one seems to remember on threads like this. he's a fellow by the name of CLAUDE-MICHEL SCHONBERG!! ring a bell? anyone? little show called LES MIS?! and that other one about vietnam. as hip as we all sound referencing obscure composers, ya gotta admit, Schonberg's written a few good tunes in his time!
just imagine for 1 moment if a score like Miss Saigon's or Les Mis' were to come out now. the TONY committee wouldn't even bother nominating anything else for Best Score or Musical!

Larson, JRB, Tesori, Sondheim...I know there's more but it's far too early to think!
Red Hot,
Harold Arlen hmmm? Did A "Sleepin' Bee" ever sting you? :)
I'm sorry that I'm a little impatient,
But could someone please explain to this OLDSTER who Jason Robert Brown is?
Thanks! :)
A Sleepin Bee is one of my favorite pieces of Arlen's...he has a way with bluesey music that just gets under your skin and stays with you. Didn't he also write Ill Wind?
Blow ill wind, blow away
Let me rest today
You're blowin' me no good (no good)
Go ill wind, go away
Skies are oh so gray
around my neighborhood, and that's no good
You're only misleadin' the sunshine I'm needin'
Ain't that a shame
It's so hard to keep up with troubles that creep up
from out of nowhere, when love's to blame
So ill wind, blow away
Let me rest today
You're blowin' me no good (no good)
You're only misleadin' the sunshine I'm needin'
Ain't that a shame
It's so hard to keep up with troubles that creep up
from out of nowhere, when love's to blame
So ill wind, blow away
Let me rest today
You're blowin' me no good (no good)
Blow, ill wind, blow.
