42nd STREET
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

The first that came to mind, "Let It Go," The Full Monty.
"SUNY Binghamton, yes. I'm sure getting a degree from SUNY Binghamton is very useful. Normally to get a degree with that kind of credibility you'd have to study in Guatemala or Haiti."

My favorite ACT I Finale is definitely Les Mis. "One Day More" is such an excellent song, and I remember getting chills in the audience when they all sang at the end. Even the CD continues to blow me away. Gotta' love Les Mis...

I don't think the emotional ending of CABARET can be beat, but MAMMA MIA has a really fun ending too.

Hairspray...no comparison.

even if you don't like Hairspray, you cannot deny the energy in the crowd and the energy from the preformers.

say the word...and i just might listen...

Wow, I COMPLETELY forgot about Hairspray. The ending to Hairspray is really fun. I love Harvey coming out of the Ultra Clutch can. What a DIVA moment, and a great song to end the show with! -- Everyone gets to showcase their vocals, plus there's lots of big bright lights on that wall and hairspray all over!

I don't think any finale comes close to the finale of:

Boxofficejon,

the finale of SUNDAY is thrilling and visually stunning. Unfortunately, most of the audience is either asleep or gone by the time of the finale.

SUNDAY is a show almost exclusively for Sondheim enthusiasts and the most passionate musical devotees. To most viewers, it is a boring, pompus exercise in tedium and self indulgence.

I learned years ago, an easy way to lose a friend is to recommend a Sondheim show to them, without first giving them the OCR to memorize and fall in love with.

See and I have shown SITPWG to many of my friends and they have fallen hopelessly in love with it.

Maybe it is the type of people I hang out with (no offence to you or your friends) but many of them are art buffs... so maybe there IS a built in audience but I still think SITPWG is one of the best!

jon, I think you are absolutely right.:))

also, of course, be aware of the great difference of "falling in love" with a work on video as opposed to in the theater.

viewing the video can make one appreciate and love the work, as repeated listening to the cd can.
