This is to contrast all of the other favorite number threads.
Some great ones in my opinion are(In no particular order):
Parade
Les Miserables
Wicked
Avenue Q
A Chorus Line
The Producers
Children of Eden
Hairspray
Jerry Springer The Opera
Merrily We Roll Along
Ragtime
The Full Monty
i think we've done this before, but i'll play:
Cabaret. just listening to it on the cast recording gives me chills. i was so shocked that it ended that way.
Aida. at the end, the whole beginning suddenly makes sense.
Les Misérables give me the chills EVERY time...no joke.
And Wicked.
RENT's is really nice too...though I despise the way the story ends...the song is beautiful.

I go for the cheese. Even if I don't like the way it is incorporated into the story, I still love watching it. Therefore, I really love Taboo's finale. It gets me every time. I love the way that show ends, the way it is portrayed by the characters, and even the curtain call. It's when I see that that I find it hard to believe that anyone can not like the show, because I can't resist that finale.
Same with Rent. While it doesn't really please me plotwise, I just love the song and the what the characters do and that warm feeling it gives me on that last line sung. Love it.
As for shows that actually have good solid endings, plotwise. Definitely The Full Monty. Can't be beat, and entertaining as hell.
I'll go for Ragtime, AIDA (so sad but cool), Children of Eden,You're A Good Man Charlie Brown-it's just so fun and happy-makes me smile, ummmmm.....West Side Story....that's all I can think of.

Marincrazy11, why do you think AIDA's finale is sad ? I find it very uplifting and hopeful. If it ended on the scene before that, now that would be sad !
Take care
well not really, I guess. It is very hopeful and I love the idea, it's just that I was still so sad from the scene before, but no I do think the ending is uplifting.
A few that immediately come to mind...
La Cage aux Folles
The Producers
A Chorus Line
Crazy for You

GYPSY-powerful and dramatic,HAIRSPRAY-musical theater prozac, PHANTOM- very emotional and my current fav, THE PRODUCERS-Nathan and Matthew seem to walk on air! And I'd like to add DEATH OF A SALESMAN and THE ODD COUPLE with ANGELS IN AMERICA pts.1&2 as having wonderful final scenes.
Les Mis
Hairspray
The Full Monty
Titanic
Gypsy- wow.
Wicked-(tear)
Les Miserables-(tears)
Avenue Q-haha
Cabaret-just so moving, but not tears. After just the finale you want to stand.
The problem with Rent is that they use that song "There's only us.." so many times. While it meant a lot to me through the show, the end just seems like a normal reprise.
