There was a thread about this a long while ago, but that was October. What is your favorite overture? Updated On: 7/24/04 at 01:47 AM

I usually skip over the overtures. I cant listen to a song where there is no singing.

Candide should be on the top of the list... The FULL Merrily overture with the Tuba solo of Good Thing Going... gives me chills. Guys and Dolls has a nice overture... Gypsy's prepares you for Styne's best score.
Gypsy's overture is outstanding....i love it. Nine's overture is cool too because its so unique with the "lalalalas"

CATS! - I never skip it... Plus, in performance it's so unique with all the cats running through the audience with the blinking lights. Not the way the current tour does it, but you know, the was it's supposed to be done....
Jesus Christ Superstar
Cats (the one and only thing I enjoy about this show)
Nine
