Favorite Shows of 2019

Musical: Oklahoma!

Play: The Inheritance and The Sound Inside

Immersive: The Blood Comedies and The Winter Machine (both in L.A.). The Blood Comedies is my favorite theatrical experience of any kind. It was just me and one actor in a room for 30 minutes and it was one of the best things I've ever experienced. By the end of it, I was sobbing, the actor was crying, we were hugging, it was extraordinary.

Kiss Me Kate was so wonderful and fun.

Oklahoma was dark, sexy, and I loved the staging.

Hadestown will enchant me for the rest of my life.

For non-musicals: a tie especially because of the great acting:

In The Green (God, I hope this show lives on. Even if Grace McLean just releases a few songs as an EP, I will take it.)

My Fair Lady with Laura Benanti (Perfect)

A Strange Loop

Oklahoma!

Waitress (again)

Honorable mention to The Cher Show which was a lot of fun and surprisingly more emotional than I thought it'd be... though it still wasn't exactly great theater. 2019 was not a great year of theater for me. I saw fewer shows overall and, even then, the best shows were great but there were a lot of duds in between.

^ VintageSnarker, I heard from one of the cast members of In the Green that they have already recorded an album and it's now a matter of getting funding to mix and release it.
