Elaine Paige, she's great in everything she does. :)
I realize that Philip Quast is Australian, but I think he would qualify as a "West End Star."

Joanna Riding -
Loved her in everything I've seen her in 'My Fair Lady', 'Hobson's Choice', 'Witches of Eastwick' , 'Martin Guerre' and my favourite, Anne in 'A Little Night Music'. #
Frances Ruffelle -
No one has matched her Epinone. I've also seen her at Ronnie Stotts and she was fantastic.
And of course Ruthie. Although, I have only seen her in Chicago, I've seen her do plenty on television. Amazing!
Philip Quast and John Barrowman ain't British, but they count, and I adore 'em both.
Also have quite a thing for Rupert Evans, Jenna Russell, Daniel Evans, and erm... I'm running out of Evanses! Another vote for Jonathan Pryce. Roll on 'Glengarry Glen Ross'!
Joana Riding- She's simply remarkable always
Ruthie Henshall- very few to match her IMO
Jonathan Pryce- coolest guy
John Barrowman- Mostly great
I had the wonderful chance to see both Ruthie and Frances ruffele on one stage as Velma and roxie. ( ruthie is one of the few performers who go to play both Chicago leads)
Michael Ball, Maria Friedman, Dame Judi Dench, Martin Crewes, Emma Williams, John Owen Jones -- and Gavin Creel. (Yeah, I know he's American, but he IS in the West End at the moment!)

obviously Ruthie Henshall, the most talented woman on the face of the planet.
and John Barrowman, the most attractive man on the face of the planet.

Does Hugh Jackman also qualify? I discovered him when he was playing Curly in OKLAHOMA! in London many years ago

I wouldn't say so. He's identified more as an International star.
Yes, Quast is Australian, but he's established himself as a West End star.
I cant believe Ive actually forgotten about Judi Dench! and Ian McKellen!!!
<-------Elaine Paige!! She is fabulous!
Of course Julie Andrews is the 1st one that comes to mind, but I don't know many British theatre stars, only Linzi Hateley, Maria Friedman, Michael Ball and Ruthie Henshall. What are your favorites?
While she had success in the music hall shows, Julie Andrews is really more of a Broadway and Hollywood star, than a West End star. She became a star, in America. My favorite of the Brits, is Julian Ovenden. I also really like Linzi Hateley.
love him ! I think were going to London next year after seeing Yankeefan's West End pics... and of course...

Kerry Ellis, she is an amazing performer especially in We Will Rock you and Wicked.
Elaine Page!
I agree with most of the above, am very surprised that nobody has mentioned the wonderfully talented Laura Michelle Kelly... She has a big future ahead of her. Obviously Scarlett is another great Mary, I also thought her sister Summer was absolutely amazing in the Drowsy Chaperone.
Jenna Russell and Daniel Evans.....I'm saving up my pennies to get out to NYC and see Sunday again with them......
Jo Riding has knocked me out in everything she has done.
I have a soft spot for Francess singing "Stranger to the Rain" and when she did the JRB concerts...
Oh and Julie Atherton from Avenue Q. Although I remember seeing her do Fame on tour and thought she would go far. Great album thats worth looking out too.
