Your use of the word "soundtrack" will scare away all broadway fans on this site...

The Sweeney revival is great.

"We don't value the lily less for not being made of flint and built to last. Life's bounty is in it's flow, later is too late. Where is the song when it's been sung, the dance when it's been danced? It's only we humans who want to own the future too." - Tom Stoppard, Shipwreck

You didn't change it though. A score typically refers to just the music and not the lyrics.

The all covering term is cast recording.

No stage musical can ever have a soundtrack because that would indicate that there is vocal track that isn't live. re: Favorite new musical soundtracks

To answer your original question:

25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
The Light in the Piazza
Sweeney Todd

Those are all must owns.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, See What I Wanna See and The Color Purple all deserve mentions.

In My Life would be another great one, but I don't think a recording is happen. Hopefully, our good buddy bryan will be around soon to update us on that. It has been a week or so. re: Favorite new musical soundtracks

Well, now that you've summoned him....

Sweeney Revival recording is AMAZING.

If Percy Blakeney were in Les Mis....

Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)

I thought you had to say his name three times while writing his name on the bathroom mirror in lipstick before he was officially summoned. re: Favorite new musical soundtracks

ETA: Apparently I was wrong. Guess who just PMed me? And no...I am not kidding. re: Favorite new musical soundtracks Updated On: 5/5/06 at 11:31 PM

In My Life has an OK recording.

The cast isn't very good - save for David Turner.

Lyrics are different. No skeleton lyric in Secrets re: Favorite new musical cast recordings
PERFECT FOR AN OPERA is also a bit different.

BUT - there is Vera's Rap and an organ version of Secrets.

See What I Wanna See

No question. It's beyond brilliant.

I think the general consensus is Sweeney(revival)
I still enjoy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
And right now I am Alternating my 33rpm recording of the original Pajama Game w the cd revival. Interesting contrasts.
