"A clever, but sad line from Fiddler, said from Tevye to Chava, who hints that she's in love with the non-Jewish Fyetka: A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where would they make their home?"
That line oddly enough appears in the film "Ever After". I have to wonder if it's some kind of common saying, as I'd imagine whoever has the rights to "Fiddler" wouldn't be happy if the exact same phrase was used in "Ever After".

I'm pretty sure it's some form of common saying, as Tom Waits wrote a gorgeous song based on it for Robert Wilson's ALICE.

Crazy Marie to Cinderella in Rodgers' and Hammerstein's Cinderella: "You'd be surprised how many beautiful gowns have crazy women in them."
This was especially wonderful in front of the glamorous audience at the 2013 Tonys Awards ceremony.
