Favorite restaurant in Union Square?

A friend of mine from out of town is coming to the city (it's only the second time she's been to NY), and we're going to see Fuerza Bruta this week. I want to find a fun place to go for dinner beforehand that is relatively healthy and isn't too expensive - any suggestions of favorite places in the area?

Well I love Republic. It's a tahi food resturant it's very inexpensive and very good. Other choices in the area but might be more expensive is heartland brewery and then the ever expensive Blue Water Grill

Union Square Cafe is my absolute favorite. Delicious food, excellent service, but it's not inexpensive.

Blue Water Grill is a lovely restaurant, but the food quality is definitely not commensurate with the prices.

Big Daddy Diner is a few blocks above Union Sq on Park Ave South and I LOVE going there.. good food, big portions, good price, fun vibe..

depending on how far over you want to walk, Cafeteria and Elmo are great... and if you wantto walk the few blocks and spend a little more, Il Bastardo is phenominal.
