Favourite Musical Love Song

What's your favourite musical love song? To avoid confusion, I will define a "love song" as being a song sung by one or more people about love. It can be one person singing about someone else, two people singing about each other, or more than 2 people singing about who they love. Remember, I'm asking for favourite, not necessarily best.

Jera

P.S. I spelled Favourite right. I am Canadian.

My favourite right now is "Suddenly Seymour" from LSoH. I think I love this song because when I fall in love, I want it to be like Audrey and Seymour. Not only do they love each other, they are friends, and they need each other. But, unlike Audrey and Seymour, I do not want to be eaten by a plant.

They're sort of depressing, but:

"Danglin'" by MAury Yeston
"Tell Me on a Sunday" from SONG AND DANCE
"Bare" from BARE

I love "Tell me on a Sunday". That's such a depressing song. I wouldn't want it played at my wedding. Just a thought. It is a beautiful love song.

re: Favourite Musical Love Song

To me, I can't take "Unworthy of your Love" seriously because it's not like a love song - it's like a crazy mental institution anthem or something. IF they lyrics were different it would be amazing out of context.

ButtonstheClown: I can't believe how similar our tastes in musicals are! Your top five list is almost exactly the same as mine (With the exception of Batboy, which I have not seen yet).
So cool!

I know, Munk, that "You Are My Home" was in the show from the begging. I only put 3.0 because it's the version I like best. I don't like it sung between Marguerite and Armand. I like "I'll Forget You" best for that scene.

I like "Unworthy of Your Love" in PUTTING IT TOGETHER. I think it works great out of context...

Suddenly Seymour, We'll Have Tommorow ( I know it wasn't in the actual show but from the bonus tracks)- LSoH
As Long As You're Mine- Wicked
I'll Cover You, Here Goes, Your Eyes- RENT

re: Favourite Musical Love Song

Ah, you make a good point, Munk - and though it may not be a "traditional" love song, I thought it might fit in with the subject of this post:

people singing about who they love.

...even if their love is a bit obsessive and scary. re: Favourite Musical Love Song I still think it's an amazing song, though. re: Favourite Musical Love Song And you're right, it works much better out of context.

re: Favourite Musical Love Song

*Points to avatar* Unworthy of Your Love is effective (creepy) in context, and it's gorgeous out of context. Either way, it's on my list.

Anyway, I have MANY, so I'm gonna narrow it down, a bit...

Dulcinea (Man of la Mancha)
Johanna (Sweeney Todd)
I'd Give it All For You (Songs for a New World)
I Still Believe (Miss Saigon)
I'll Cover You and the reprise (Rent)
Suddenly, Seymour (Little Shop of Horrors)
If I Loved You (Carousel)
Some Enchanted Evening (South Pacific)
As Long as He Needs Me (Oliver!)
Losing My Mind (Follies)
Not a Day Goes By (Merrily We Roll Along)
Anything For Him (Kiss of the Spider Woman)
It Couldn't Please Me More (Cabaret)
Married (Cabaret)
And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going (Dreamgirls)
Song on the Sand (La Cage aux Folles)
Maria (West Side Story)
Tonight (West Side Story)
One Hand, One Heart (West Side Story)

Now that I think about it, pretty much the majority of the score from West Side Story...
