Just got back from seeing "the New Crew" of "Wicked", and the show does not miss a beat !!! Jennifer Laura Thompson is awesome as Glinda !!! Her voice is incredible !! Effortless and flawless !! The only thing that took me a bit of getting used to is her height. She is a giant compared to KC !!!
I have to say that this was our 12th time at the show (I know... "abnormal" by some of the board standards...who cares???!!!), and tonight's "Popular" was the best that I have ever seen !! I am so glad that JLT has not tried to copy KC's Glinda. She has made it her own, and thrown in her own tidbits. During "Popular", right before the "hair flip" sequence, she did this squating thing on the side of the bed that was hysterical. Well, it must have been to Idina as well, because she starting cracking up, and was motioning for JLT to stop because she was laughing so hard !!!
JLT is a lot more awkward that KC, and she uses it to her advantage. She plays more of a clutzy Glinda, and it works !!!
Her "For Good" was absolutely beautiful !!!
As far the rest of the newcomers. Joey McIntyre as Fiyero is very good, but he still has a baby face, and at certain times, it looked like JLT could be his mother. Not because she looks old, but he just looks so young !! His acting was very good, and he has a good voice. His "As Long as Your Mine" was good, but he did not capture the same magic with Idina as Norbert did. Think his key was much lower than hers (but I dont know much about singing) But have to say... really like him as Fiyero !!
George Hearn as the Wizard is very good. I dont know... he just looks like he should be the wizard. Really looks the part. His voice is good, but sounded a bit strained. His "Wonderful" was good, but looks like they cut down the dancing a bit for him.
Christopher Fitzgerald was back as Boq, and excellent !!
As for Idina..... awesome as usual !! She gets better and better. Really noticed it during "I'm Not that Girl"... she REALLY concentrates on acting the part now. Not just hitting the vocals.
Overall, another great night at "Wicked". I love this cast !!!
thats great! i wish i could go back down to nyc and see JLT in the role

Why, I wouldn't be at all surprised if that gifted book writer Winnie Holzman didn't rewrite the story so that Glinda IS Fiyero's mother! Why not, huh?

I think that's awesome that you guys(Testing1232) have seen it 12 times(where do you get the money?)! I myself am not quite there yet but getting there soon - I love 'Wicked' - it is one of the few shows I could go see multiple multiple times -
I do wish they would have kept Sean McCourt as 'The Wizard' though - He was literally Perfect in that role - 'Wonderful' without the dancing is unfortunate - it NEEDs that dancing (unlike Defying Gravity, Good Deed, etc which stand on their own) - 'Wonderful' is meant to be danced to, the whole score of it is straight out playful - especially the tidbits that McCourt threw-in - it's too bad...
I hear ya...I've seen it 6 times and that made me a poor kid ($555 in tickets. Yikes!) but people who have seen it 12 or so times...I envy you. However, I have no desire to see it again after 7/18.

I hear ya on the 7/18 remark - but I am going to see it a few more times during this year + the whole weekend of Idina's Closing nites - it will be yet another VERY memorable weekend...
and you never know, that certain someone may very well be there too...
oh I know...trust me I know...I'm still holding out for that slight slight slight chance that she'll be back. I didn't take any chances on that one, I've got a front row seat for 1/2. Where are you sitting?
Ephie,
You really should give the new cast a shot. I love KC...trust me, but JLT has given new life to the show (if thats possible)..really, even Idina seems re-energized !!
As far as the money to see the show.. I tend not to look in people's wallets (mom told me that when I was very young)..
We are just blessed enough to both have very good jobs. Very stressful, but good jobs. Going to shows helps us keep our sanity !!!

I'm in Row A Center for both Sat & Sun - but I'm gonna try the LOTTO again - I Love the very front-
oh, Testing1232 the money thing was really rhetorical -lol
haha see I'm a poor college kid from BOSTON so in addition to my ticket I've got lots of other lovely expenses. I'm sure I'll see the new cast but not yet...too soon. I know it sounds corny but the memories I have from 7/18 I don't know I just think if I see it again so soon maybe I'll forget the amazing-ness of that performance :)
I'm pissed about my tickets though...I paid $600 for the pair. I put them on ebay and they were at $385 but BOTH of my highest bidders retracted bids and now there's like 3 hours left and they're at $301. I'm so freaking mad at ebay it's not even funny.
On another note, are you going on 1/2?
very cool...row A center. Sweet seats. Is that bway inner circle or TM?
Yep...got tix for 1/2 last week... Could not even get 2 seats together !! Had to get one in Mezz, and one partial view.. we will trade seats at intermission !! :))
what row/seat partial view? I'm BB 5...

I got tickets for the 1/2 show also. I'm going to be in Row W, center. I wouldn't hold out for Kristin returning for that one show. It's not like she could just easily slip in the role 6 months after leaving. Besides, it's Idina's last day, and she would take the attention away from her with her being there.
I think people should give the new cast a chance. Just because they weren't the original doesn't mean they're not going to be as good.
Eponine,
Totally agree !!! Last night felt totally fresh to us !!
JLT brings her own vibe to the show, and it works !! And we cant stop talking about how much we like Joey M. as Fiyero !!!
Is January 2nd definitly Idina's last show? I'd like to be there if it is.

That's when her contract is up. I am very much doubting she's going to stay. I'm sure she's got other projects she wants to work on. When you think about it, she does 8 shows a week, and she's been doing this same show for more than a year. I'm sure it'll be her last day.
Agree... someone asked at the box office last night, and the reply was that "by all indications...yes, 1/2 will be her last"..

And hasn't she been working on it for over 3 years? Since it's conception? Thats a lonnngggg time.
