Ferryman Timing Question

Hey all,

Im thinking about going to the ferryman in april, and was wondering if the 3.5 hours goes by pretty fast? My dad has back issues and I wanted to take him since he loves these types of plays, but am afraid it might be a little long.

I think it depends where you sit. I’ve seen it from rear mezz and there were points it felt long. I last saw the play from front row and wow what a difference! Felt like I was in the Carney house just observing. The stage isn't that high. If front row is already taken or out of the budget, try getting an aisle seat.

Wouldn't his back be indifferent to the perceived pace of the play? I would imagine that he would get uncomfortable after XX amount of time in a seat, and whether he was enjoying what was onstage or not wouldn't have much bearing on it?

The show runs 3 hours, 15 minutes. The formal intermission comes a little after an hour into the running time. The final two acts are played with just a brief pause (less than 5 minutes the night I saw it). If your dad can manage to sit for ~2 hours, he should be fine. Or perhaps you could consider taking a small pillow, if that would help. I would recommend getting orchestra seats, if possible, as the mezzanine at the Jacobs is a lot tighter.

I thought the play flew by. My Audience Reward seat was orchestra row M seat 1, which was the *perfect* seat not just because of the great view, but also because there was no seat in front of me so I could stretch out and have more space.

I have chronic lower back pain as well. I was so engrossed in the Carneys that I didn't notice it until I finally stood up. Did I hurt? Sure. Do I regret sitting that long? Not for a minute.
I returned a second time to see the new cast. I brought a small lumbar support pillow with me.
