Lilhead..please don't be offended by this - but how old are you? It seems that its the younger people on this board who support shows like Bare and Wicked et al;...I am in my 40s (yes - the older generation) and I just don't see much in the way of Talent in today's group of writers...but like you have said to me in other postings - its just my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

In a strange way, it seems redhot and bwaylilhead are in general agreement...

i wouldnt listen to broadwaylilhead either.. how do you know that the seats were last row mezz. all the way to the side?! Its grosses are high, it didnt get AWFUL reviews (id say mixed) and its Fiddler. It will stick around till tonys, and even if it doesnt win, america will see a number from the show and will be reminded that fiddler is on broadway. it will be around for awhile..

MimiChica... i don't think that redhot is "complaining"... just stating his view that there is a drought of creative and intelligent shows on Broadway right now... and you're wrong that nobody will ever be happy with what's on Broadway... I'm happy that creative, imaginative shows like Avenue Q are making it... but where are the other young and talented writers out there? where are the new Sondheims? Why aren't the La Chiusa's and Lippa's getting their chance on Broadway? Yet, i DO have to say that "Wicked" is a great attempt to do something other than a revival or staged movie...

redhot is speaking from his experience, which includes many on the stage, and you are speaking from yours... i also don't see where he said he hated what was on Broadway, merely that Wicked was an OK show, as i also felt... it could have been so much more... and there are different ideas about what makes a showstoppiong number... just because it ends the first act, doesn't make it show-stopping... show-stopping would have been for her to fly away at the end of the song... you want a show stopper? try Melba Moore and "I Got Love" from Purlie... now THAT'S a showstopper...

also, why the reference to shows from the 60s? redhot would have been too young to have seen those... and how do YOU know that they weren't creative and imaginative in their day? I infer from your comment about "older people" that you're relatively young and wouldn't have seen those shows either, so i don't know what basis you have for making those comments other than perhaps having seen the revivals or the movies...

and what's coming in 2005? except for Jerry Springer, perhaps, nothing but more revivals and staged versions of movies... nothing creative and imaginative about that... although i AM looking forward to West Side Story and The Wiz, if they are done well...

yes broadwaylilhead, you didnt say it was closing.. but you did imply that the show is in trouble. and it isnt.

Plus today, Fiddler received very good reviews in New York Magazine, The New Yorker and Time Magazine.
