I saw both this week with the tickets I won from the flea market. I saw them both mid week but, failed to write a review due to an unfortunate family emergency on Friday.
I will start with the bad and end with the perfect.
On Wednesday afternoon in the crappy NYC weather, my friend and I braved the storm and went to "i love you, you're perfect now change" Long story short, she turned to me at intermission and said "You want to jet?" Me: "DEFINATELY". My question is.. with the theater being half empty and a show that's at high school level, how did it stay opened so long? I didn't think any of the tunes were memorable.. The acting fell flat and the cast with credits as big as they all had, could not project to the 6th row! Overall, It was a dull experience.. Moving on to "Fiddler On The Roof"
I thought everything about this production was pure perfection. The Set was the most gorgeous thing I have seen. The leaves on stage, the trees, the lighting holy crap it was wonderful. The way the cast stepped on to the stage at the start of the show and made the space their own.. "Tradition" everything about it gave me goosebumps. I dancing was so clean and even in that tiny wooden space they had to dance in, it was just outstanding. The Daughters ALL had beautiful voices. I REALLY Loved Laura Shoop as Hodel and my god the scene where Harvey brings her to the train station in the 2nd act and she sings "Far From The Home I Love".. it was SO touching. Every girl around my mom and I was crying.. we were crying. I never expected Harvey and Rosie to be this good.. I have to admit. I am so used to their comic timing that it was totally stupid of me to think they couldn't handle this show. They were both outstanding and both deserve to get that tony for the newest catergory next June as replacements. Rosie got the prayer, the inflection everything down perfect. Her acting was just wonderful. She was so strong as Golde and your heart broke for her when Tevye disowns Chava.
Harvey.. wow.. I have to say I was so impressed. You really shouldn't miss the show with them. They were so good together. It was just an enjoyable evening that flew by.
Thank You
