I have it and haven't been able to listen through it all once yet. It just grates on me.

really? I think everyone sounds wonderful and "Matchmaker" has never been better sung. But then again I was one of the few people who loved this production.

I accept everyone is entitled to their opinion. But this is a little extreme - especially as without Hammerstein musical theatre as we know it would not exist. His writing in shows such as SHOWBOAT, OKLAHOMA, CAROUSEL redefined musical theatre and made a greater contribution to the development of the art form than anyone other than perhaps - Sondheim (who is probably the greatest musical theatre composer/lyricist of all).

I don't agree that LaChiusa is like Sondheim. I think most of what he writes is pretty forgettable.
I love Sondheim and my tastes are pretty broad. I also like Schwartz, Wildhorn (even Lloyd Webber) and many others. But LaChiusa leaves me totally cold.
Getting back to the original thread about the new "Fiddler" - I think "Fiddler" is a great show but I have not yet heard or seen this production. I'm looking forward to seeing it on my next trip to New York in August.

i disagree with dididda. i LOVE alfred molina's Tevye. the only thing that really bothers me about him on the nbcr is that he laughs a little too much. when i saw him live, he started to cry on stage during 'chaveleh' and he brought everyone around me (including myself) to tears.
