re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

I love it. "Topsy-Turvy" is my favorite song from Friddler, now...

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

Good reason! You seem to be very picky? What DO you like?

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

Well, we know that he doesn't like Sondheim....which pretty much says it all, doesn't it?

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

I like most everything by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Frank Wildhorn, Schonberg, and Stephen Schwartz.

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

How does Alfred Molina sound on it ?
I haven't seen it. I'm not sure I will... but I'm a fan of Fiddler from seeing the movie and I think I might pick a copy up.

I know someone who saw the show show last Wed. and Alfred Molina AND the lead girl were both out which seems to make it a quite show!

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

Sconberg and Scwartz definately have.....but I think Schwartz loses some points for giving us 'Wicked'.

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

I consider Wicked to be on the better end of what I have heard from Schwartz. But then again...I haven't heard much else from him.

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

Yeah I have to agree Schwartz can be strange. He'll give a song like Gravity that everyone love but then throw song in that everyone skips like "something bad" o well
#17

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

right. if "something bad" was not in the show, people would get confused. so i guess the question is if he can make it sound like something that people would NOT want to skip.

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

Exactly...he could've written the song and given us the same information...but he could've done it...well...better.

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

Sondheim, LaChuisa, Guetell, Herman, Hammerstein, they're all SH*T!!!! But Stephen Schwartz now there is a conversation starter.
BSoBW2: I punched Sondheim in the face after I saw Wicked and said, "Why couldn't you write like that!?"

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

LaChuisa is alse very Sondheim like as a composer. Does anyone else NOT like LaCuisa?

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

i have the cast recording as well. i LOVE it to death. after seeing the show, (which was absolutely astonishing. in a good way), the orchestra seems smaller on the nbcr though.

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

I liked the production, but I really don't care for the new recording. It has a dry, untheatrical studio sound. It lacks the spaciousness and theatricality of the original Broadway cast recording or the London version, and as ponine mentioned, it somehow makes the large orchestra sound teeny. I'm thankful to have much more the the show's dance music, but I listened to the new Fiddler once, and I don't think I'll be returning to listen to it again.

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

I think Schwartz is my favorite composer on Broadway. The shows of his that I know are Pippin, Wicked, Godspell, Children of Eden, and then the music for Pocahontas, The Prince of Egypt, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. His Broadway work consists of glorious scores.

re: Fiddler on the Roof NBCR

i have the NBCR and love it except for one thing: molina. he just doesnt have enough ooph to be tevye. i dont know at some points i like the more...naturalisatic approach to the character, but in most cases, i dont.
