Fight Club - The Musical???

DEAR GOD, WHY?

The words "The first rule about fight club is you don't talk about fight club" may soon be heard in song. Chuck Palahniuk's 1996 cult novel "Fight Club" — which was turned into the 1999 movie starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton — may make another turn as a stage musical, Playbill On-Line has learned.

At a recent reading as part of his promotional tour for his latest novel "Stranger Than Fiction," the author divulged to audiences that his gritty novel was possibly making the leap to the stage in song, according to event spokespersons. Palahniuk also mentioned "Fight Club" director David Fincher — whose film credits include "Alien 3," "The Game," "Seven" and "Panic Room" — would be involved in the developing musical.

"Fight Club" centers on a nameless narrator so disillusioned with his everyday life that he frequents cancer support groups to feel human, until he meets an anarchic stranger. With his newfound counterpart Tyler Durden, the anonymous character starts an underground boxing society and becomes entangled in a love triangle with a troubled young woman.

The 1999 film version of the Palahniuk novel was penned by Jim Uhls and starred Edward Norton (Burn This) as the Narrator and Brad Pitt played Tyler Durden. The movie also featured performances by Helena Bonham Carter, Jared Leto and Meat Loaf.

I know, I just saw that on the headlines and totally did a double take. WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS???

Because it is more marketable to turn a great movie (although NOT musical material) into a stage play than to let original musicals and plays try to make it.

I do think Chuck Palahniuk's Choke, however, could make a good musical.

UGH!

Awful movie. Awful idea for a musical. The disco-euro-pop versions of Gone With the Wind and Gladitor were a better ideas than this.

This is going to be one weird musical. This would be better suited as a play. I can't see people breaking out into song for this story... Who's idea was this??
I have my books and my poetry to protect me...

My question is, how are they going to show the scene that creeps me out the most, when the bag of fat breaks & spills? (ick!!!)
I have visions of Carrie dancing in my head...

It's hot and it's monotonous. I want my glasses.

What do these characters have to sing about?

re: Fight Club - The Musical???

I love any opportunity for people to cash in, but this would have to be really well done to impress me. The film is in my top ten and would be virtually impossible to recreate on stage.. it's just too masculine and violent. Whilst I haven't read the book, I did read Choke and despised it.. so really can't get excited if this goes ahead.

But I doubt it will.

It's in the top ten of my most hated films list. I would rather had been staring at Care Bears wallpaper for two hours.
