Thought it was adorable. Have not seen the show before, so I had no expectations. The book is all over the place, but still funny and peppered with seemingly current zingers. I kept getting a lot of deja vu in the plot...an Oklahoma minute here, Pajama Game there etc etc etc. Og reminded me of the devil in Damn Yankees.
This was my first time seeing Cheyenne and, wow!...my friend turned to me and said...."see...we should have gone to Xanadu." Kate Baldwin was wonderful as well.
The top note of the night was Terri White singing Necessity, I hope to see more of her on stage.
Sound quality was definitely crisp and clear...although there were a couple of tech issues...to be expected. In past years, I have found the sound to be a bit muddled at Encores' dress, but it is always ironed out by the time I see the actual performance.
I'll be there tonight, and although I'm a big fan of the score I've never seen a production before. I guess I expected the book to be a little creaky, but I'm glad to hear you liked it overall.
I heard from a bunch of people that it's pretty fantastic. Thanks for your thoughts.
I'd easily rank the [incredibly trippy] movie version as one of my favorite movies of all time. [proving how questionable my taste in movies is] however, since I was so young when I first saw it, I totally missed that it was such a blatant social critique. I'm really looking forward to seeing the musical with a keener eye and an ability to actually get the book.
Nothing can beat the Irish Repertory production. Kevin Kern, Kerry O'Malley, and Chad Kimball. Dream cast come true.

I've never seen this show onstage either, and am looking forward to seeing it tonight. The rehearsal video and interviews posted here with Cheyenne Jackson and Terri White looked awesome, they are terrific performers whom I have seen and loved in other shows, and the rest of the cast looks pretty amazing, too.

it's called a "kilt" not a "dress".

YoungSally: The statement about OG resembling Applegate in Yankees should be the other way around. FINIAN was first produced years before Yankees, so Applegate would remind people of OG. But Og is a happy leprechaun not a devil.

Actually I think he is a miserable leprechaun until the end....
My post was intended to convey my experience....and having not seen the show before, but being familiar with Yankees...hence my experience.
