Last night I attended a run-though of a new play by Marshall Goldberg at the Davenport Theatre.
'Daddy Issues' is a comedy set in 1960's Hells Kitchen. I'm not going to tell you the story, but I will tell you that casting is EXCELLENT, the written material is funny and believable and each character has their own stake (and incredible charm!) in a runaway 'fib' that will have you laughing your head off.
The third act is a SCREAM. I knew it was inevitable the house of cards was tumbling, and I felt bad that I was laughing over lines, but I couldn't help myself. The reveal is so funny and well played, you have to see it for yourself. H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S!!!
The Davenport is an intimate theatre with around 40 seats, and the set design is very comfortable and a good fit. I spoke with the some of the cast afterward (the joy of intimate theatre) and have great praise for the production. I REALLY enjoyed this show and want to see it live on for a long time--I encourage you to see it. See it!! SEE IT! You can thank me later!
The show goes into previews tonight at 8pm and there are 8 seats left (I'm looking now) Address: 354 W 45th St, between 9th & 8th Aves. New York, NY 10036
Phone
212) 956-0948
Seriously--I laughed and had a good time! Cheers and to the cast and crew.....heart emoticon heart emoticon thank you!!!
