First time going to Macy's Parade LIVE - Where to go to catch Broadway performances?

For the first time ever I will be in NYC for Thanksgiving weekend.
Where should I go to watch the Broadway performances? What time in the morning should I arrive to get a good seat? Will I also be able to see the parade, or is it just a place the TV cuts to to show the performances?
Thanks!!
PS: If anyone has any other tips on watching the parade with a family of four, let me know!

On TV is best.
You need a ticket to sit in the bleachers to see the shows live.

Even the bleachers that are able to see the performances are VIP. I went a couple years ago because I had a great connection and sat in the bleacher on the corner of 34th and Broadway and it was fantastic, but it was so hard to get! And we had to be there super early.
I'd say just watch on TV if you can't get a ticket.

Posted: 11/8/06 at 3:37pmIt's cool to watch the parade, but I wouldn't bother trying to be around Macy's area. It's so not worth watching the B'way performances since they lip sync....very poorly I might add. And it's so bloody crowded and just not worth the irritation in my opinion. I'd go to uws along CPW and get a great view....and you don't have to wait for the parade to get all the way downtown.
