Another great score with a troubled book. "Sing, Happy" is my anthem.
Any other fans?
sing me a happy song about robins in spring.....!!!
Oh my goodness yes! I also have to say Sing, Happy is an anthem for me. Next to 1 or 2 others. An amazing score. Thanks BobbyBubby...you've made my day!
"A Quiet Thing" always makes me tear up.
I love Veanne Cox, but I prefer a bigger voice (Liza) in the role.
i did a show a few weeks ago and it was all about Kander and Ebb, it was called 'Sing Happy' and rocked, all these shows were in it!!! we did lots of Liza stuff and told how she got the job and things...
You are not Judy Garland, Judy Garland is Judy Garland, you are you...

I personally also love "It's A Quiet Thing"! It just rings so true with me. Great score!
"You are not Judy Garland, Judy Garland is Judy Garland, you are you.."
I'm sorry bjivie2, you must be a little confuzzeld - this is a thread about Flora, The Red Menace, the show. I'm not so sure what you are talking about. Love this show BobbyBubby - I would love to see it in concert!
Have you heard Brent Barrett do "Quiet Thing"? So good.

bjivie2 is directing his lyric at Liza Minnelli.
Opening night (I believe) of Flora, Judy Garland walked up to Ebb and said, "Listen, I have a suggestion for that song. [regarding "Sing Happy"] 'You are not Judy Garland, Judy Garland is Judy Garland. You are you.' That's what it should be."
It's in Colored Lights, the autobiography/interview book of Kander & Ebb. It's supposed to be "You are not Myrna Loy, Myrna Loy is Myrna Loy. You are you." I love this score.
Oh, thanks Jon. I was rather confuzzled....I love the icon Jon. Very nice! I did hear Bretn do it - very nice. Has anyone ever heard a man sing Sing, Happy? It workd very nicely!
I think Cheno got it. I think he found the comment to be unfunny.

Your Special bjivie 2.........
Colored Lights is a great read. I reccomend it to all
Does Liza still do "Sing Happy" in her show? She needs to do a show. I want to see her perform live.
Have there ever been any plans to revive this?
There was a revisal in '87 with Veanne Cox as Flora and choreography by Stroman.

Harold Prince takes the blame for the failure of this show. He produced it, and felt that George Abbott was way too out of touch to understand why anyone would WANT to be a Communist. Hal thought that he should have had a bigger hand in the direction.
One good thing came out of this, though. From then on, Hal would direct every show he produced. His next show: CABARET.
And the rest, as they say, is history!
I'd love to see him direct a revival. Find some great 19-year old to star.

I absolutely adore the original cast recording. Young Liza at her best.
Great score. "A Quiet Thing" is a beautiful song. As much as I adore Veanne Cox, she sounds like she's whispering on the recording!

It's also the only time in my life I heard Liza sing in head voice (at the end of "A Quiet Thing"--"Happiness comes in OOOON...tiptoe").
