Footloose

Footloose is coming to San Bernardino.......and I'm debating on going. I have the OBC and like it, but have not heard many good things about the play.
If any of you have seen it, I'd value your opinions.

Just finished up a run of this show
luckily our director had a brain and vision.
It was the first show I saw on Broadway and the talent and energy was great.
You should check it out as it can be alot of fun.

if the choreography and singing voices are spectacular it will be very enjoyable. if not, you might be miserable.

i enjoy the story and think the book works fine, but others seem to not agree. i have really enjoyed the show both times i have seen it (national tour {with Joe Machota as Ren = HOTT} and a local dinner theatre production).

While it takes some quality acting to make those lines work, the music is so much fun. My recommendation is to go see it. When it's done well, it can be quite exhilerating.

It wasn't a flop. It ran for two years, then toured the country for the next two. It paid back it's investment, so it's not considered a flop. A Critical flop, maybe, but that didn't stop the audience from enjoying the show.

The show garnered mixed reviews. Most of the negativity was centered on the plot of the show, the choregraphy, and the two female leads having nothing to do in the show.

The reviewers who did enjoy the show talked about the high energy of the dance numbers, the cast being great (Jeremy Kushnier as Ren in his breakout role, and this being a show that could "introduce a new generation" to broadway.

Hmmmm...isn't that what they are saying about Wicked now?

I've got my ticket to see Footloose in San Bernardino, and really looking forward to it. I've never seen the show before, and have heard a lot of negative comments about it on this board, but I really like the OBC recording! I like the Broadway versions of the movie songs maybe even better than the film versions, and I really like the new songs, especially the rock/gospel opening number Footloose/On Any Sunday, which gets to me every time I hear it. By the way, and I'll probably start a thread about this closer to the opening, the San Bernardino production is a 3-stop Equity mini-tour. They're only playing three theaters: Performances run May 31-June 19 at the California Theater in San Bernardino, Pechanga Casino in Temecula, and Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. The same director/choreographer who did the recent Equity mini-tour of Aida are doing this one.

I saw it on broadway years back. It was the second worst show I have ever seen! (and I have seen tons on broadway) I would not waste my time unless there is someone worth seeing in it. Save your money and rent the movie!

You know...it's a fun show. Cheesy, but fun.

It's not a musical that's going to change you're life -- but did you expect it to? What it requires is a cast that has the energy and talent to make the audience forget about some of the more cheesy numbers.

It depends how it is staged. I thought the idea for the musical was wonderful and had great potential. The new music had a some good songs (On Any Sunday, I Can't Stand Still, Mama Says) and some real clunkers (Learning to Be Silent, Can You Find it in Your Heart, I Confess). But the staging was completely off. So many wonderful missed opportunities that veered off into utter nonsense. The dream rock concert, singing the love song to each other from opposite ends of the stage and the shopping cart ballet are ones that spring to mind. And let's not even get into the neon green and purple color scheme.
