For the kiddies...

I'm hung over.

I was at Splash last night (try as I may, I refuse to call it SBNY).

Lo and behold, I was treated to a performance from Altar Boyz featuring BWW favorite Cheyenne Jackson. Ya know...he's tall enough to be your mother. Goliath.

Anywho, the performance was not what I expected. First of all, it's just no use performing for those wasted bitches who ALL screech along to Defying Gravity when it comes on every week (me included...but I still retain a drop of composure as well as dulcet tones). The song the gentlemen performed was 'Girl, You Make Me Wanna Wait'. I was expecting something kinda campy and jeuvenile, but thanks to Mr. Jackson's performance, it was actually pretty interesting. He seems to be quite a smart actor, eschewing the easy laugh for the truth, thereby making the song far more compelling. And he's got a lovely, controlled voice...not a whole lot of unnecessary melisma.

I fear it was lost on the 'ISN'T ONE SHORT DAY IN THE EMERALD CITY THE BEST SONG EVER' crowd, but my interest was piqued.

Thought you'd like to know.

'ISN'T ONE SHORT DAY IN THE EMERALD CITY THE BEST SONG EVER'

Is that a rhetorical question? Because if it isn't the answer is a definite YES!

PEACE.

I haven't been to Musical Mondays in AGES (long before Wicked). Back then it was all about clips from Night of A Thousand Stars, Dolores Gray's "Thanks A Lot But No Thanks," and Mme. Holliday's Tony clip of Dreamgirls. Perhaps I'll have to revisit it sometime .....

It's changed a bit, Margo. God do I miss those Nights of a Thousand Stars parades. I mean, where else can you find Judith Jamison, Linda Grey and Danielle Brisebois on the same stage???

Every once in a while, we get treated to the glorious Ms. Grey...but it's a bit more rare now.

There were three different WICKED numbers. I'm all for Defying Gravity, but the others were a bit much.

Ms. Holliday is still well-represented. As is Run, Barbra, RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN (aka Don't Rain on My Parade). Plenty of Sweet Charity, too. And thank GOD they haven't played the title number from MAME in years!

Though it does seem like the kids from NYU have taken over. I would KILL to see the looks on their faces if the clip of Poor Little Person were played!

Perhaps we can plan a group outing!

I might be up for it. I had a group that used to go every single Monday, but then two were a couple that have since broken up, one moved to London, one went to AA and the rest -- well, the rest I just tolerated because of the other four.

I, too, used to go EVERY SINGLE MONDAY.

Now I go once in a while.

Still a fun night, but the body is not bouncing back from the boozing like it used to.

What is this? And where is it?

It sounds like something I would enjoy. I always have a harder time filling my Mon nights in the city when I visit!
