It was also Joel Grey's last day as The Wizard. He was replaced by the infinitely better George Hearn.

I may be wrong, but didn't Joel not perform that evening? Hadn't he left earlier because he was sick, but that was the day where he actually LEFT the production?

Yes, Joel was out also, but he "left" the show like a month before that, Sean was in for a while before 7/18
