I’m curious about seeing Forbidden Broadway: Rude Awakening, but I’m wondering what the songs/skits are like. What are the parodies of? Do they change/update them? Like if I went to see the show now, are there still the old skits with Annie, Phantom, Lion King, etc. And as for some of the newer ones... I’ve heard a few songs off the FB albums, like “Jersey Goys,” “The Be-Littled Mermaid,” “Wickeder,” and a couple others, which are great. Are those still in the show now? And what else do they have?
Sounds like a really fun show, so any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Posted: 2/23/08 at 11:34pmI saw FB when Wicked was still in its first year. It was very current, but still kept some of the old skits(Annie,Phantom,etc.). From what I understand, the show keeps a main set of skits, but continues to update as needed. It was hilarious and well worth seeing. I saw it on a Sunday night when most everything else was dark, and it was definitely a fun evening.

I saw it back in January and it had some of the older skits along with ones on last season's shows like Company, Spring Awakening, Grey Gardens and such. It was really funny and I definitely suggest seeing it.
As for the rush, I ended up not doing it because the guy at the box office said he wouldn't start selling the tickets until 8 for an 8:15 show. Instead I went to TKTS and got a second row seat for $34.
Hope that helps!

student rush is $30, I did it this week and got row E on the aisle
as for the skits (i'll do my best to remember...wont be in order): it began with the on stage seating at spring awakening into mama who bore me, curtains "slow people", Hairspray/xanadu/legally blonde "you cant stop the camp", the little mermaid, mary poppins, sarah brightman, avenue q/little shop of horrors/lion king "you gotta get a puppet", lion king "circle of mice", Les mis "one tour more" "on my phone", a long Spring Awakening scene, Company "being intense", phantom "mucus of the night" into something with Ethel Merman, and tons of others
They did a lot of old parodies that i remember seeing when I was really young (sarah brightman, phantom with merman). Everything was great!

oops, they make fun of defying gravity from wicked and then they go into a song called "dont monkey with broadway" or something like that with the wicked monkeys.
Chicago, Annie, the Drowsy Chaperone, were also others
I was really dissapointed that they did not do the parody song from Grey Gardens

I heard the cast album to Rude Awakening the other day, it savages Disney and Corporate Broadway, and takes the Mickey (Mouse that is) out of Mary Poppins and Little Mermaid.
It cleverly points out that that Spamalot really is a Forbidden Broadway skit, and pokes fun at the fact that with body miking Broadway singers do not have to have voices.
It does have a pointed message that Broadway has gone astray, and does dig at a few revivals like A Chorus Line.
As the title suggests Spring Awakening is the primary target as They comment on the relevance of it and the fact that no one is very likely to want to see the show if they ever do a national tour.
I used to dislike Forbidden Broadway but I quite enjoyed it, I guess that is what comes from getting older, it would have been a fun (albeit relatively short) show to see.
Perhaps a Spiderman show is not such a bad idea after all, these guys can strangle Him in His own web - Spiderman becomes Superfluouseman...I think Forbidden Broadway has more work to do.

I saw it on Feb 9 and the Grey Gardens number WAS in it.
It definitely helps if you've seen or are at least familiar with most of the shows: like them or not. I love Spring Awakening and I thought the spoof of it was the funniest thing ever.
However, is it great theater? no. Is it entertaining? yes. But I wouldn't pay full price. Check b'way box for current discount codes. Should be able to get them for about 40 bucks incl. fees.

We saw it a few months ago and the show was just about as JKlock describes. They didn't do the Grey Gardens parody the night we were there, but as others have said, they do switch things in and out sometimes, so you might get lucky!
We enjoyed it, but I have to say that the night we were there it seemed that most of the people there really didn't get a lot of the jokes. It is kind of disconcerting to be some of the only audience members laughing. My son and I saw "Company" multiple times and were on the floor during "Being Intense," but I think many of the people there had no idea why we thought it was so funny.
Also, there was an older couple behind us who had brought their grandson with them, who appeared to be no more than 6 years old. Needless to say, he grew increasingly bored as the night went on and kept asking when it was going to be over. That was a bit distracting! It's really not a show for young kids.
I'd agree that it's a funny show (especially for Broadway fans), but I'd try to get discount tickets.

Posted: 2/24/08 at 10:46amI saw it last weekend and they did a Wicked parody, Les Mis, Phantom, Grey Gardens, Company, Hairspray (with Legally Blonde and Xanadu), Little Mermaid, Lion King, Avenue Q, Little Shop, Annie, Spring Awakening (twice), Jersey Boys, Chicago, Sarah Brightman, and Mary Poppens. I really enjoyed it, and so did the rest of the audience. I thought the Spring Awakening and Les Mis parodies hilarious, and I like the Company skit with all the instruments.

I just saw that it only runs till March 23rd. I'm going to be in the city that day and was wondering how I should get tix. Should I just rush or should I buy tickets with a broadwaybox discount bc if it the closing day rush might be hard to get? Also is this show better seen from the ORC or Front Mezz? I could can First row Front Mezz Center for $25 or Right Orc Row E for $35 Which is better?
Also is this show ok for a nine year old?

See it soon as it has a hiatus and will tour starting in April.
It will be back late May.
If you see everything and love Broadway, there is nothing more precious than FORBIDDEN BROADWAY.
PS They put GG back in the show. It is one of the best numbers.
In now:
GG
Jersey Goys
Company
Spring Awakening (2 numbers and are now my favorite in this edition)
Two big Le Miz (On my Phone, 1 day more)
Hairspray
You Can't Stop The Camp
If you love Broadway Forbidden Broadway will be a lot of fun.
I have seen it many times and this version is the strongest version so far. Jen Simard is missed though but I love this cast!
Val's Merman will blow you away! Jared's Raul and David Hyde Pierce are fierce and he does a great job in the SPRING SKITS!
Michael West does the best Harvey Fierstein impersonation.
Don't miss my favorite show.

PS Not sure if it is ok for a nine year old there are a few sexual jokes in this show. It is not for children under 12.
In the Spring number there are some explicit scenes. I would not take a nine year old to this.
Also, the Avenue Q number is a bit racy for a nine year old.
Depends on the nine year old but I would not take a child under 12.

is RENT in there still?
Also my sister has seen RENT a bunch of times so I think this will be ok right? There is no nudity in this show like in SA right? BC if there is I want to know so I don't tell my parents its ok to take her.
Thanks

There is no Rent skit. It is not appropriate for a child.
There is no nudity but there is puppet sex and sexual content.

I would not bring a 9 year old to see it. They just won't get it. I don't think RENT is appropriate for a 9 year old either. A number of the shows they spoof are inappropriate for a 9 year old.
If NUDITY is the only thing you care about there isn't any.

is it true that the order/content might depend on who is singing that day and what they do well?!?!? the pianists are amazing, by the way.
as to where discounted tickets are located, the space is so small it doesn't really matter where you sit. What's fun sometimes is to go early enough to hear some of the "experts" in the audience trying to get their friends or family ready for it...and getting most of the "insider" info wrong. Because the Playbill there is not that much to read, I think the wait time (plus the intimate house) make people chat more as they wait. You could update those OVERHEARD AT THE THEATRE threads and blogs with plenty any time I go back to that show...it's incredible.
