I've been wondering for a while how FORBIDDEN BROADWAY might be received these days, since parodying certain aspects of post-pandemic Broadway might be deemed insensitive. So I'm glad to see this is returning, in a format that focuses on shows of the past, on Friday and Saturday evenings for a month.
From Playbill:
Forbidden Sondheim: Merrily We Stole a Song, the latest work from Forbidden Broadway creator Gerard Alessandrini, will kick off a limited engagement October 27 in the Green Fig Cabaret Theater, located in the Yotel on West 42nd Street.
The cast will include Michael West as Tony-winning composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim, Dayna Jarae Dantzler, Chris Collins-Pisano, and Jenny Lee Stern with Christine Pedi as special guest. Musical staging is by Spamilton and Forbidden Broadway veteran Gerry McIntyre, and Fred Barton, the original 1982 Forbidden Broadway music director, will return in that same role for this latest edition.
Merrily We Stole a Song includes new parodies of Sondheim's shows and classic favorites from Forbidden Broadway's 40 years of spoofing Sondheim shows and stars.
