Hey, I got to see Forbidden Broadway: SVU last night(made for a great Valentine's Day as opposed to my usual tradition of eating lots of ice cream with friends, which I did anyway...) but just wanted to post a bit about it, unfortunately I don't remember everything but I'll try to make note of some of the great parts.
I saw Summer Shock! so I've actually seen a couple of them, but a lot of them either just seemed a bit better or even funnier because my broadway knowledge has increased.
Of course as a Wicked fan, I loved Defying Chenoweth and Meagan really did a good job with it. But I absolutely looved Jennifer as Chenoweth she had her body movements and voice and tone down perfectly. Plus she even seems her heigbht! In fact, most of Jennifer's impressions were right on and as great as everyone was, I think she stole the show.
A couple of new additions that I thought were great: making fun of the broadway season by showing glimpses of Good Vibrations and All Shook Up, poking fun at Good Vibrations' terrible reviews, it was great.
Edie Falco in 'Night Mother, singing about how she wants to kill herself because this broadway season has sucked. Then her mother commenting on how she doesn't blame her with new shows out like Brooklyn...ROTFL!
Also, It Sucks To Be Me was perfect. There was Brooke Shields complaining how she stars in a show no one wants to see, Tom Hewitt complaining of having to star in a show that sucks so much, Stephen Schwartz complaining that because voters "voted with their hearts" he still hasn't won a Tony, and a Christmas-Eve like tourist who told the audience that it sucks to be us because of all the stupid Broadway shows out now that we're forced fed but we go anyway and spend way too much money on shows that suck. ROTFL!
It was nice to understand "Beauty's been decreased" better because of the post alluding to it. Thanks for that!
Ooh and then they added a great number to the Fiddler of the Roof part: Harvey Fierstein, still in his Hairspray costume, but with a big beard singing "If I Were A Straight Man." Will, who was in as understudy for Ron, had his voice down perfectly!
Ooh, and the Assassins number with the obsessed-with-Sondheim performers was also much funnier this time-the guy said "like every theatre geek who worships every word Sondheim writes" certianly reminded me of certain people on the board
The rest of the night was great too seeing some of them over again-"You gotta have a puppet, hating Julie Taymor and getting headbraces, etc.
On one more note, I did have to say I missed the montage of Les Miserables: the world's most miserable music and to "Do You Hear the People Sing" everyone begging them to close Cats, Phantom and Les Miz. I guess it's kind of old by now, but I loved it in Summer Shock. Oh well.
Now for my one question: I didn't even notice till intermission that they had really funny pics of a lot of Broadway performances on top of the curtain. After deducting, I figured out who all of them were except one: she was second from the right, between Julie Andrews and Michael Crawford, she had a yellow flower on her hat, dark hair and a really big chin. I even asked the guys selling souveniers and they didn't know. If someone knows, please tell me, it was driving me crazy last night! Thanks.

Glad you liked it. I adore it.
And the song is called "It Sucks To Be YOU" Instead of me.
LOL.

Posted: 2/15/05 at 4:04pmwickedrentq - I was wondering the EXACT same thing when I saw "SVU" a few weeks ago! I still haven't figured out who it was... that particular characture is not on any other Forbidden Broadway CD's or posters, so I have no idea!

Posted: 2/15/05 at 4:46pmA few years ago disney fired a few people in Beauty and the Beast. They fired a fork and a spoon. That number kills me.

I love Defying Cheno. It is killer and Simard is fantastic.
She is also an Angel.
Megan does a very impressive Carol Channing and Idina.
I actually think she would be perfect as Elphaba in Wicked.

Yup, they mentioned the missing spoon and fork and I was laughing hysterically and I was the only one...though that happened a bunch of times during the course of the show.
I forgot Corine, thanks for reminding me, she was really great as Carol Channing, she had it down perfectly.
And Corine, I know you love FB, you don't know who that pic was of, do you?

"Beauty's Been Decreased" should be cut. It's too old...totally out of date. A lot of people have forgotten about the downsizing.
I'm surprised they haven't replaced it with a number about how long the damn show's been (undeservedly) running. And all the alleged "names" who have come in as Belle -- overaged pop stars or TV ingenues known only to tweens. I think they have the lyric "Show as old as time..." Why don't they go with that?

Hum. I disagree. Simard does it so well.
It is bad that they cut the Aida number which i loved.
That number killed me. I wish the show was 8 hours, but that is me.

Posted: 2/15/05 at 9:47pmYou disagree the number should be cut because the performer is good? That makes no sense. Parody is supposed to be topical. Forbidden Broadway performers have always been good. Should they still have the Grand Hotel or Jekyll and Hyde numbers (among many others in the show's history) in there just because they were funny/performed well? Beauty was decreased about FIVE years ago. That's out of date!

Thanks Corine.
I somewhat understand the need for trying to keep updated, but I was disappointed that both times I didn't get to see a parody of Rent. I mean they still have parodies of shows no longer on Broadway, it seems justified to keep Rent in since it's still on. Oh well.

Posted: 2/16/05 at 9:59amI agree with wickedrentq... They haven't done a RENT number in the New York production in a long time... not even in the "20th Anniversary Edition" (which it seems they should have). When I saw the tour of Forbidden Broadway a few years back, they did perform "Seasons of Hype", and that was enough... just aknowledge that RENT is still playing. Since SVU is all new, maybe they should have written a new RENT parody... maybe talking about all that "big names" that keep starring in RENT (ie Scary Spice, Jai Rodiguez, Drew Lachey, etc.)
