Frances Ruffelle as Roxie
#0Frances Ruffelle as Roxie
Posted: 4/24/04 at 8:25pmI heard that Frances is or is supposed to play Roxie in London. But she's not the current Roxie, does anyone know if she'll be performing the part between July 8-July 16th?

She was Roxie when I was there in January.
Her understudy was wonderful.

Hi!
Frances would be Roxie till June but I don't think any of you will enjoy it though! Here in the English musicals forum, she was complained to death. I have seen her myself with Ruthie and Kevin (their last nite!!!) and she absolutely just made the whole wonderful nite spoiled! I think she was a average Roxie to be honest, but if you guys really want to see a gd one here in Westend, see Linzi Hateley when she comes back, she was AWESOME!!!!

Yeah.
And the kid's real cute, too. And talented!

Posted: 4/26/04 at 11:20amActually I thought Frances had one of the best singing voices of all the Roxies I've seen. Her acting was a little over the top, but I thought the same of Tiffany Graves's Velma, and a lot of the Cell Block Tango girls in London, too. She's not a great dancer, but hey, she's better than Melanie Griffith! (And at least as good as Gretchen Mol...)

Posted: 4/26/04 at 4:19pmWas Linzi Hateley the woman who played Carrie in London and on Broadway? The name seems familiar.

Yup! That is Linzi...
As for Frances, she was fine, not horrible, but certainly not a fave of mine. She is in until June 12 I think.

Thanks.
Whatever Ruffelle's shortcomings, she can't be any worse than the woman I saw both times on Broadway - once as Roxy when Ann Reinking was out, and the next time as Velma, when Karen Ziemba was playing Roxie. Her name is Nancy something, and she was underwhelming in both roles.
When I went the second time and realized I was seeing this same woman again, I was so annoyed.
