I think Noah Racey should have won this one...

I didn't see Never Gonna Dance, so I can't say whether Racey should have won. But although I thought Jackman's dancing in BFO was excellent, I thought Racey would win just because his part was mostly about the dancing. Maybe the voters forgot him because his show closed a while ago.

No question it should have been Racey - he was astonishing! Much as I loved Jackman's performance, how much real dancing did he do?

I have no idea what you mean by real dancing, but Jackman's part was pretty dance-heavy. He probably didn't dance as much as Racey, but he was definitely in motion for much of the show. Again, I do find it strange that Racey didn't win, but it's probaby because NGD closed months ago and the voters forgot it.

And when that happy day arrives I will be front row center! I love him, and I thought that his dancing was by far the best I have seen on broadway in years.

For someone who is quite tall and more athletic than naturally graceful, Hugh was surprisingly good in vastly different dance moves - from Latin to tap to high-kicking with the Rockettes or dancing ala Fred Astaire/Al Jolson.

Maybe he won for the booty dance re: Fred Astaire Awards

I was suprised that Donna Murphy got it? I did not see wonderful town so i should not make that assumption but I do not know I just never heard much about her being this amazing dance talent

Two words: Star F*CKers.

The Astaire Award used to be given to DANCERS, not stars who do a little dancing in their star vehicles. DONNA MURPHY??? Wow - she gets thrown around by some chorus boys...

For real?????? That is so dumb. I am trying ot think of another show that has come out that and actress had a lot of dancing to do? If that is really all she does and a few jazz squares that is awful.

Who was Murphy up against? Apart from Nancy Lemenager in Never Gonna Dance (was she nominated?) Murphy probably did as much dancing as any other leading lady in last season's shows.

The awardees for the 2004 TDF/ASTAIRE AWARDS were chosen from this season's Broadway productions of: Avenue Q. Bombay Dreams, The Boy From Oz, Caroline or Change, Fiddler on the Roof, Little Shop of Horrors, Never Gonna Dance, Taboo, Wicked and Wonderful Town

there is no mention of nominees so to speak they just vote between the committee i believe and then just present it. no other nominees are listed.

For the record, here's an official statement from a spokesman for the Astaire Awards: ''The Astaire Awards have taken many forms since they were founded in 1982, from simple cocktail receptions to produced benefit events with star performances, from just naming awardees (1982-1999) to naming nominees first (2000-2003), but what remains constant is the awards' dedication to honoring one of this country's unique artforms.''

So if they took from this year's musicals, what happened to Karen Ziemba? Now she's a DANCER.

I have not seen BOY FROM OZ, so I can't give my opinion, but Donna Murphy really did not do much dancing (at least not that I noticed). Maybe during "Swing", but that's about it.
