Last night I went to see the Piper Theatre's outdoor production of Xanadu and I really enjoyed it. Having seen the Broadway production three times I knew what to expect and wasn't disappointed.

While I didn't love the Sonny's singing voice (it was more talk-singing), I did find it easy on the eyes as well as most other members of the cast. The Kira/Klio was really funny and had a pretty good voice.

I think I'll be returning again next week to see it again as well as their production of The Island of Dr. Moreau.

Did you have to get there very early or could you get there at, like, 7:45 and be fine? I'm wanting to go tonight but can't leave Manhattan to get there till around 6:30.

BwayGeek, you'll have no problem with last-minute seating — the stage is in the center of a public park, with audience seating on the grass (or, to be accurate, astroturf). It's a "picnic" atmosphere, with most audience members on blankets (although I was fine without one). Although free, a $5 donation is requested. Hot dogs, snacks, sodas, beer and wine are for sale at reasonable prices. I saw it last night as well, and it was a fun summer evening show! Glad I went.

I got there at about 7 to set up (put a blanket down and save space for friends). There was plenty of room at that time. The only thing to keep in mind is that there is a marked section that you have to be behind if you're sitting in chair which was a genius idea. If you want to get in front of the chair people then you might be fine getting there by 7:45. Also know that the show actually does start at 8, if not a little earlier.

Thanks for the response, followspot. I went Friday and though it got rained out after "Don't Walk Away," it was a fun night.

I'm seeing a production of "Xanadu" this Thursday, July 19th at the Zachary Scott Theatre here in Austin. I've seen "Xanadu" on Broadway (Cheyenne Jackson) and on tour in Dallas (Max von Essen). Enjoy! from RC in Austin, Texas

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
